I take my pets to Banfield and it's a great experience. Banfield is located 1 mile from my house. I enrolled my 18 year old cat, Angel, with kidney disease in the wellness plan and saved over $1500 per year. They were very flexible and accommdating when it comes to treatment and medication. Angel was once prescribed a pill to be taken twice a day. Since giving her a pill was quite the chore, the vet switched her to a pill which was taken once a day. When she died in June, all of the employees were sad and sent me a sympathy card. Also, I did not have to continue to pay for her wellness plan; The vet tech said the amount of money you have to pay depends on what services in your plan you have utilized to date.

The vets and vet techs at my banfield are very greyhound savy. They know Toes by name and greet him as soon as we walk in the door. A few of the vet techs have told me that they have other greyhound patients. I didn't sign Toes up for a wellness plan until he had been a patient there for a year. I wanted to make sure that they were greyhound savy before signing him up.

Regarding blood work... I know that they do send some blood work out. My cat's urine was sent out to determine what specifc bacteria was causing her infections. When Toes had his first dental there, their machine said his blood count was low so they asked me if they could send it to a different lab for analysis. I would assume that the level of analysis and types of equipment needed determines which test can be done in house.

For after hours treatment, they refer us to an emergency vet and speciality clinic which is located 3 miles from their facility.

Hope this helps

4 years ago when our first grey came to us we brought him to Banfield. When the vet found out that he raced in Caliente she ordered a TON of tests, even though he had already been to the vets through his adoption group. She was incredibly unknowledgable about greyhounds. I switched vets immediatly!

I don't blame Banfield for the ignorance, it was just that Dr. I saw!

I don't go to Banfield for the same reason I won't go to a VCA vet. Revolving-door vets who are overworked, used up and replaced so often you'd rarely see the same vet twice in a year. That's what I've witnessed.

I went to the VCA in CA and always had the same vet, and they were probably one of my favorite vets I've had over the years. I was always impressed with the service. My only complaint is that they were always booked solid.

I know people who use a VCA here locally, and again, have seen the same vet for 10+ years (or so they tell me).

And I just remembered that our group uses an ortho at a VCA hospital for the broken legged dogs too. She's excellent.

Does Banfield really keep an exotics vet on hand? I wouldn't take my littles to someone who doesn't do exotics unless it was an emergency and I had no choice, they're too tricky.

Beth, Petey (8 September 2018- ), and Faith (22 March 2019). Godspeed Patrick (28 April 1999 - 5 August 2012), Murphy (23 June 2004 - 27 July 2013), Leo (1 May 2009 - 27 January 2020), and Henry (10 August 2010 - 7 August 2020), you were loved more than you can know.

I have never taken any of my pups to Banfield. We have taken our pups to see Dr Sheff for the past 20 years. As long as we have dogs and he cares for dogs, that is where we will go. However, a friend of mine used to take her dogs to Banfield because she thought it would be cheaper. We compared exam and vaccine costs one day. Dr. Sheff was 1/2 the cost of Banfield. He also had a much better rapport with her terrified basset hound.

Drake - Fortified Power x Cajun Oriel

Janney - Ronco x Sol Happy

Yukon - (Yak Back) - Epic Prince x Barts Cinnamon

I'm going to take my cat Dash to Banfield this morning. Not real happy about it, but I think it will be less expensive than the E-vet. Does anyone know if their Wellness plans run for a calendar year (Jan-Dec), or are they for 12 months from when you get them? Do you have to sign up for the plan before you are seen? I know Dash will need bloodwork, maybe urinalysis, and probably fluids. If it's all covered, a year's worth of Wellness plans might be less expensive for 1 visit.

Camille, Mom to Cher and Centeno! Also the kitties: Dash, Tod, and Starburst.

The year starts from the time you sign your dog up. Also, plans can be upgraded or downgraded throughout the year if you find that you need additional services later on.

I took Dash to Banfield this morning when they opened at 10. I did not have an appointment. A cat not eating is an emergency. The girl at the counter told me to fill out a form, then handed me another form to fill out to drop him off. I told her I wanted to wait, and she said "well you don't have an appointment and it's a Sunday and we are very busy. Besides, if it is going to take more than 15 minutes we are supposed to handle it as a drop off." I told her I needed to speak to the vet to give a history, and she said "Well she can't just drop everything and come see you, she is seeing other sick pets". She then presented me with an "estimate", bloodwork, urinalysis, fluids if necessary and xrays. There was a charge on there for $28.50 for a restraint/holding fee! I about puked. Total $475 PLUS medication if needed.

At that point I was ready to take Dash and run, but got to thinking that 24 hours might make a huge difference for him, and that it would be best to leave him, rather than wait until tomorrow to see our regular vet. Told her to get bloodwork, urinalysis and fluids if necessary, and gave her all his records to copy.

I was told the earliest I would get a call was 11:30. At 1:15 I called them. His liver enzymes are normal, but his glucose is elevated. Now waiting on urinalysis. They have had him since 10 am and I have NEVER spoken to or laid eyes on a vet!

NEVER AGAIN!!!!

I use banfield for my two and the dr there is grey savvy and is very nice. When Leo broke his toe I was all about gosh I should get an xray and blah blah blah but the vet was like watch it for 2 weeks and if he is still babying it then come in for an xray, he gave him some pain pills and Leo was fine with in a week. He also did both of their dentals and they both came rushing out as happy as could be after them. I do like this one that I am going to even though I srive 45mins away. They are opening up a new one about 10 mins from my house soon but if I dont like the vet I will just make the drive. Good luck! Maybe talk to the vet and see how you feel about the vet and their staff.

I would love to talk to their vet. I would like to give the vet a history on my cat, instead of just checking the box "has your pet had any of the following symptoms...." But the vet was too busy to talk to me. I was promised a phone call. I had to call them. Now I am waiting for them to call me back. I have a feeling that at 4:30 the urinalysis will have come back and we will be nowhere as far as why Dash isn't eating. They close at 5.

I have a regular vet and will now be taking Dash there tomorrow because if they try to tell me he is diabetic based on a glucose of 201 I will not buy it. I was afraid to wait another 24 hours because a cat cannot go for more than 24 hours without eating or they will develop liver problems..

I will be contacting Banfield customer service about their lack of compassion and communication. Why advertise "walk-ins welcome" and "emergencies handled" if you are going to handle it as just another customer?
