Guest rememberingSadi
Kipp just started whimpering last night when he gets up/lies down. He hasn't sustained any injuries that I'm aware of...he hasn't really been running around outside since it's been so hot. Obviously I'm very concerned with osteo... We're going to take him in to the vet. Does anyone have any thoughts or am I being overly paranoid? Obviously he needs medical attention, but I'm hoping that it's just something else... Has anyone ever had this experience before? Thanks for any help in advance....
Guest mdwolfen
Hope this does not scare you. Long story short. My 10 year old started panting all of the time and it appeared that he was getting weak in his rear legs. I could tell it was hurting him. Called the vet. That day I took him in to the vet, he walked to the car and walked in to the vets office. He was in pain from walking I could see. The vet looked at him, gave him some meds and waited till he calmed down to look at him further. Half hour later, she comes in, examines him and finds that he can not move his rear legs and has no pain reflexes. Took him to a specialist that night. He said that had a slim chance of recovery. He is now on the other side of the bridge. But, with no pain. I'm sure your grey is not that bad and it could just be osteo or nothing at all but please, get him checked out soon. After that, I will not even wait one day to call the vet if my other boys legs hurt. Keep us posted.
Burpdog
Do a tick panel Protatek's fees for greyhounds are very reasonable. I would also do chiropractic (certified by AFCA). Quote Diane & The Senior Gang Burpdog Biscuits
Batmom
First off, you'll want your vet to do a full range-of-motion check. If the main symptom is discomfort getting up and getting down, most likely cause is a neck/back thing. Guest StriderDog
Be sure to have the vet check the anal glands - we had a foster who was badly infected but showed no signs other than crying when getting up or laying down!
Guest spudlover
We had a similar experience to you - yelping and whining when getting up and down, with no obvious cause. It lasted for a week or 10 days, and hasn't happened since. Maybe just a pulled muscle? We did have the vet check him over, and he didn't find anything. Hope your case will be the same.... Guest CyndiW
Alex was doing the exact same thing a couple of months ago. I got a very sick feeling in my stomach because we lost Odysseus to osteo a couple of years ago. Turns out it was Alex's back and he went in for Adequan shots and made a full recovery from the back pain. Of course, we hope it doesn't return but it came on really sudden just like you described and without an obvious injury. Praying that Kipp's is something minor as well. Greytlady94
There are a multitude of possible reasons and you are absolutely doing the right thing by getting Kipp in to see the vet. Guest luluaz
Simply, get it checked- "This breed is so incredibly stoic--- Everyone with greys that are having bone-structure issues, know the signs of expressed pain, 'cuz, "they" don't show it!! " My own quote from Remembrance-'nough said.
mimosasmom
Mimosa has done that a couple of times. The first time was in May. I didn't see what happened because I was in the shower, but heard her and Mimi zooming around the bedroom. She started whimpering when she tried to lie down off and on. That night she barely slept and just paced. Took her to the vet the next morning and it was determined to be a spine/pelvic area problem. Vet put her on Tramadol and Deramaxx and she got a corticosteroid shot. She was better in a day or so. She must have done it again a few weeks ago, same thing. I had some leftover meds so I gave her those and she was better in a day. But definitely get Kipp checked ASAP. Quote Camille, Mom to Cher and Centeno! Guest adriahna
My gal Desiree gets that same "ugh" feeling every blue moon - she has what basically amounts to a slipped disc in her neck. She gets a painkiller if it acts up, and I'll rub her shoulders - it seems to help her. Hope Kipp is okay - a vet check certainly can't hurt.
