Guest AmyB
For those people who take their greys for acupuncture, I have some questions. Does it work if a dog is not in pain but just has a bit of hesitancy to move (ie recovering from a stroke)? How much does it cost? Do you know of any good ones near Portland, Maine? Burpdog
Prices will vary widely and whether they come to the house or you go to the clinic affects the price. I have paid $45 in the clinic and $85 for home visit. Diane4114
Willow had her 3rd. acupuncture appt. this past week. We were hoping it would help with her incontinence problems. It hasn't seem to help with that, but I believe she feels a lot better overall. She went once a week for 3 weeks. We will be going to every other week, the next visit in 2 weeks My vet charges $40. per visit. If you by 3 at one time it was $105. She had one visit per week for 3 weeks. The theory is that if it's going to help, you should see some improvement in 3 visits. Then you can either go on a maintenance schedule or just when you feel they need a visit. Guest MomofSweetPotatoes
Battle has acupuncture. He doesn't show signs of pain, but has an odd gait. He improved after 1 treatment, and looked like a million bucks by the third. We are currently on a maintenance schedule and only go when his gait goes off again. It cost us $70 per visit. robinw
my dog beansy (at the bridge) had several treatments of acupuncture following a stroke. she wasn't in any pain. she pretty much returned to normal (although a bit slower) and lived to age 16. it's hard to tell if it helped or if she would have recovered anyway, but i wouldn't hesitate to do it again if needed. Bill419
Susie, my bridge baby, collapsed from a slipped disc in her neck at age 14 1/2. She couldn't even stand. We took her for chiropractic and acupuncture treatments (same vet) and she was standing after the first treatment and was running after 2 1/2 months of every other week treatments. After that she went for acupuncture once a month for the rest of her life. I think that helped her recover faster from the stroke she had at age 15 (3 days). She died 2 months after her 15th birthday. When we moved from Florida to Memphis one of the 1st things I did was to find a vet that gives chiropratic and acupuncture treatments. I found them in the same office about 5 minutes from where I live. My DW just finished going for 3 weeks of acupuncture treatments. It helped her also. All my seniors have chiropractic treatments and this could be the reason mine have not had problems.
