Guest JohnnyBell
Sophie had her rear leg amputated about 4 weeks ago due to osteo.I have just a few questions that I'm concerned about,1) She is still bald from being shaved, could it be because she's mostly white with black and her skin is pink and it just looks like it's taking along time?or could it be her immune system from the chemo?(we have to wait til thurs for her 2nd treatment because her white blood cell count was low last week) 2)She seems to dip or go down(like she forgets there's no leg there) a lot is this normal and will she improve with time.I feels so bad when she does this. Thanks
Batmom
Re the hair loss: Couple years ago our healthy whippet was shaved for some surgery. It took 6+ months for his hair to grow back to where you couldn't see the shaved spot. I think it depends on the individual dog and where they are in their hair growth cycle. Right now, in summer, I'm betting you won't see rapid regrowth and shouldn't expect to. Can't really answer your other question. Scritchies to your girlie. Aerosmom
I think it just takes greys a looong time to regrow hair. Snickers is still pretty bare where her amputation was, but it took Cricket a good six months to regrow her patch that was shaved for ran MRI. The sinking part, I don't know -- Snickers lost a front leg. She still will turn and look at the area a few times a day as if she's surprised her leg is gone. Maybe someone with a rear amputation can give you some feedback. Hope the chemo goes well this week. packmom
The sinking may be due to just needing to build strength and balance. She will eventually angle that back leg toward the middle so she looks like a true tripod.
