Guest CatsandDog
We've noticed Sadie's rear right leg will shake sometimes. We haven't noticed a pattern as yet,(inside/outside - after walks, etc). Anyone else notice this with greys? She's an older girl, could it be a neurological problem of some kind?
Burpdog
I've had quite a few do that. Bothered me more than them How old is older? Quote Diane & The Senior Gang Burpdog Biscuits
Rickiesmom
One of Arlie's back legs does that if she stands around for too long. At first I thought it was nerves (we were at the vet) but have seen it since in other standing-around situations. Arlie is 5 1/2, so happy to hear it may not develop into anything more. Was thinking about posting the question too, thanks CatsandDog.
Guest formercatlady
I'm so glad you asked as it's yet another topic that I meant to post about. Abby's right rear leg will do this sometimes, too. Sometimes it's after she has run in the backyard, but other times it happens for no apparent reason. I'm curious to see what others will say. Guest CaroleWithRunningDogs
hemmmmmmm - I thought that was an early indication of lumbosacral stenosis. How come I think that? I do know that the back-end of our beloved greys gets weaker first - the wobbliness when they walk I think is fairly common in older dogs. Maybe I thought that because the 2 dogs I know with lumbosacral stenosis, had/have wobbly back legs and then I learned that they had LS. IF what I think is on the right track, you would limit their rowdy play time, limit their stair trips (unless you dog walks them), etc. Walking is very good for them so they don't prematurely lose their muscle mass. I think that is why they say that older dogs should not have a decrease in their protein as originally thought too. Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to start walking her in a harness instead of a martingale that can pull on the neck. My biggest dog has spinal stenosis, and so far we haven't been told to do anything differently other than making sure that he doesn't carry unnecessary weight. I put him in a harness because my 2 girls have cervical (upper neck) stenosis, and any collar putting pressure on their necks could be problematic. I don't think it is too worrisome if you keep your girl in good weight management, try the harness, and make sure she continues with a good diet and regular exercise. Wishing you the best story and not my maybe erroneous recall of wobbliness. gh_face Carole
Guest CatsandDog
Great replies - thank you all! It seems like it may be nothing then, but we will keep an eye on her for the LS situation too. In answer to the earlier question, Sadie is 9 1/2.
Guest hamiesmom
My boy (9yrs old) does that quite often and so does my sister's grey. My vet said that it is nothing to worry about, and I forget what he called it. Someone else said, if you put your leg underneath you or sit on it for too long and when you stretch back out, you muscles will tremble also. My boy has just had his annual vet visit and he is healthy and happy.
Guest longdogs
Angel's leg shakes when she's nervous or uncomfortable with her surroundings. It eventually spreads to the rest of her so her knees practically knock together. She gets better as soon as she's relaxed again. It always happens when she sees the vet. RobinM
I've seen Beau with one leg that shake sometimes. I'm not overly concerned about it. I think it's just the way he's standing at the moment. It will happen to me from time to time with an arm or a leg. Could be a spasm.
