Murphy's 14th Birthday Would Have Been Tomorrow,

My HEART-DOG, MURPHY, went to the bridge on 1/7/06.

This is the first birthday of MINE( 9/9) and of HERS( 9/16) that I have had without her. :(

Two weeks ago, I felt compelled to look at dogs on Petfinder.

I haven't gone there in quite a while because it breaks my heart to see all the homeless dogs

and it makes me so angry to read some of the horrors that these poor pups have endured. :angryfire

Anyway, I thought that I was looking because I was just lonely with both of our birthdays coming up.

But the strangest thing happened.

I found myself looking at breeds of dogs that I have NEVER had any interest in before.

I mean NEVER.

Breeds that I knew nothing about; breeds that did not fit my lifestyle; breeds that were foreign to me.

And there, on a page for Am Staf 'terrors' ( :lol ), was a dog that had obviously been mis-placed.

She was NOT an Am Staf, pure or mixed.

She was, well, something ELSE!

WHAT exactly, THAT was the question. :P

I had never seen such an unusual-looking dog.

She was so BEAUTIFUL!

I tried to forget about her but I kept being drawn to her picture.

After a couple of days, I printed it out and put it in my purse. :unsure

The next thing I knew I was showing the photo to other people, then to my family.

Finally, I emailed the group for more info. :o

Mind you, I had NO INTENTION of getting another dog.

Certainly not right NOW.

But the next thing I knew I had made an appointment to see her in person.

It was like I could NOT STOP myself! :gmark

I met her on Sat., the 2nd.

I knew as soon as I saw her that she was supposed to be MY puppy. :yikes

That's right, she is a PUPPY, 10 months old! :mum

Me, who said that I'd NEVER have another puppy. :shakefinger

NEVER, EVER. Nope, not ME! :laughitup

Well, they brought her to meet my boys last friday night.

And that was THAT. :chip

I am now the proud Mom of a " HEINZ-57, EXTROIDINAIRE" puppy-girl named MADDIE,

who is, as best I can tell, an Australian Cattle-dog, American Bulldog, ??? mix. :confetti

She is black and white with speckles and has one brown eye and one blue eye. :inlove

Her ears are pricked and folded and she has a TAIL!

I've never had a dog with a 'real' tail before! :lol

She never stops wagging and she never stops smiling.

Photos to follow soon!

She walked into my home and my life like she'd been waiting for us.

And, I guess I had been waiting, too, even though I did not know it at the time. :yinyang

I have absolutely NO doubt that Maddie was my birthday gift from Murphy. :angelwings

I just have no other way to explain how I came to have this unusual PUPPY at this particular time.

So, I'll be celebrating Murphy's birthday tomorrow with the boys and their new puppy-sister,

missing my Murphy as much as ever, :brokenheart

but thanking her for sending me a distraction to keep me busy for the next 12-15 YEARS! :b-day

She always knew exactly what I needed.

Happy Birthday, Murphy Peaches Doberman.

Mommy loves you now and forever. :heart
