He does look just like your Coal, even down to the toes. Jimmy is about 80lbs, so he is a similar size too, but he does feel small after Frisby who was over 90lbs. He had made himself at home already, but I have a week off work to help him settle.

The lady that had him for six months had something wrong with her foot and couldn't walk him. So she decided he would be better off with someone who could give the walks and attention he needs. She was pretty upset to part with him and he has been well looked after, so she probably did the right thing for him.

When I lost my heart dog Frisby several months ago, I swore I couldn't possibly have another dog as my heart was broken. It was many weeks before I could think of Frisby without crying and I was so lonely at home with nobody to talk to or cuddle. So today I gave in and brought Jimmy home. He is a four and a half year old big black boy. He is a bounce and has been at home with me for a few hours now. I hope he will settle as he seems quite at home already. He ate his dinner with no problem. Anyway here is Jimmy. It's not a brilliant photo, but I'm sure there will be many more to come

Frisby always ate his food at his bowl, but any treats were taken to his bed, even if he was in another room when given the treat. Oh how I miss that.

Thank you all so much for your kind thoughts. The house is just so empty without him. I just don't know how to fill my time. I'm sitting here now with tears falling, when I should be walking him in those bluebell walks that we went to every day. There is such a void left that he used to fill.

This is so hard to write, but for the first time in eight and a half years my boy wasn't at the door to greet me when I came home from work yesterday. He couldn't stand and was panting hard with pain. My vet came to the house and said that she couldn't help him any more. He was on Tramadol and steroids for his kidney failure and there was nothing else to do. His back end had been giving him problems for a few months and he couldn't climb the stairs any more, which really upset him as he always slept with me. So I decided to put a stop to his pain and send him to the bridge. He was my first greyhound and was a huge boy, but all the kids in the area knew him and always gave him a fuss, which he just loved. For the past two years it has been just him and me since my son left home. Oh how I'm going to miss him. I love you Frisby and will always think of you. This is my favourite ever picture of my beautiful boy. Taken just two weeks ago.

Thank you all for your advice. I have ordered a belly band. I didn't think I could buy them in England, but good old Amazon. It should be here in a few days. From what you have said I think the belly band will be ideal and as Cleptogrey said his urine is so weak that hopefully there shouldn't be any skin irritation. I will try the diapers as they are due to arrive tomorrow, but I think he will be more comfortable in the belly band. Thanks again.

Yes that worries me too, but the diapers are made the same as human ones and are designed to keep them dry. My dog walker is fine with it, as she already has to clear up after him and change his bedding most days anyway. So he shouldn't have to be in a wet one for too long. I've had him for eight and a half years and he has always been very clean indoors and gets so upset when he has an accident. I never scold him, but he always feels guilty. I'm hoping that the diapers will help him realise he's not making a mess.

Frisby has mild kidney failure and needs to drink lots & lots. As a result he has become incontinent and can't go more than a couple of hours between bathroom breaks. He also goes in his sleep on his bed. He has always been totally clean and gets upset when he has an accident in his bed. I have a dog walker who comes in to him when I am at work, but he has always wet his bed or on the floor. I have ordered some doggie diapers for when I am out for a long time and at night. They will arrive on Monday, but I am wondering if he will accept wearing them. Does anyone here have any experience with them and did your dog accept them or just rip them off? I'm hoping they work for his sake and mine.

I'm so terribly sorry. It's never easy, even when you know it's coming. At least he is running pain free now.

I don't know if they do it differently over here, but when Frisby has blood drawn they take it from his front leg and I have always been present to calm him and pet him. It is just assumed that you stay with your dog for most treatments(not x rays).

I am so sorry. The only consolation that you have is that he didn't have to suffer any pain. All he knew up to the end was your love and happiness. God speed Dusty

What a beautiful and touching tribute to a very much loved little girl. I'm so sorry she had to leave you.

Frisby eats grass every day and always has done. We walk with two young labs and the three of them stand there grazing like a herd of cows. Every two weeks or so, Frisby wakes in the morning with the rumbly tummy and refuses to eat his breakfast until I've taken him for a good long walk and then he's usually fine. With him the rumbles are not related to grass. He loves his grass, which is fine, until it doesn't quite come out the other end and I have to help.

Frisby is nearly 10 and has recently developed a corn for the first time. My vet doesn't want to operate on it as he has had a severe reaction to anasthetic the last couple of times. I have read that salicylic acid helps with corns. I have also ordered a Thera-Paw boot to give him some relief and thought I could try the salicylic acid. My vet seems to think that might work, but it will take a very long time. Does anyone else have any suggestions?

I am so sorry, but at least you can take solace from the fact that she had a very long and happy life and when the time came you made the right decision for her.
