  1. Over the winter, Bueller had a pad on one of his paws the looked like it more or less got sliced off. Either by ice or maybe even frost bite. It wasn't bleeding at all, we just found it after seeing him licking his paw like a fiend. It just appeared really sore and raw. We cleaned it up and put some OxyFresh Pet Gel on it and put a gauze pad and wrapped it. Then we slipped a baby sock over it and put a ring of tape around the top of the sock (not on the fur) and changed the wrap daily and reapplied the gel. It healed up really nicely without any problems whatsoever. The sock kept Bueller from licking it and kept it relatively clean, considering it was winter! The pad grew back in very nicely, first appearing a light pink color. Bueller actually had the very same problem last winter too, and we treated it exactly the same way with the same good results. Hope this helps a little. Will think good thoughts and send prayers for Maisy! Bueller sends her doggie kisses because he said he knows how she feels!

    Perfect!!

  2. the vet suggested letting air at it as long as there was no bleeding. didnt want bacitracin (saying it would keep it too moist), but suggested some gold bond body powder: to help dry it and reduce itching. he's a good boy.

My vet said the same. And not to dispute, I just put a baby sock on and used the mead medical paper tape on the top and the cotton let it breath well.

(the paper tape sticks well but when it is time to take off it is great and does not stick to the hair.)

  3. You're welcome on both counts, Sheila.

Interesting that DH noticed the difference after being away for the week. Same thing happens to me. When people don't see them for days or months the weight loss, or any changes, really, are more noticeable. When you're there day after day, it's harder to tell unless you get them weighed every few days!

DH was actually away for about 5 weeks when he came home and noticed.

I know there's a compounding pharmacy in AZ that can save you big bucks on the cost of the anti-fungal med that's recommended for VF. Dr. Stack or probably Dr. Cole could steer you in that direction. Hoping your boy puts some weight back on and feels better soon! :getwell

    Would that be Roadrunner Pharmacy?

I am using Roadrunner. But just to tell you that I did price around and Diamond Back the only difference was the $6.00 shipping charge and I can get it at Sams for about $9.00 more. Would have been worth it for the first fill to start him right away instead of waiting 4 days to get here :headwall

  4. Thank you for the link. I have already read everything I could get my hands on by Dr Stack. I even spoke to her a few years ago when I was to foster a VF dog. She is a very kind and caring lady. Will tell you everything you need to know.....

Thank you for the weight loss comment. It was DH who noticed it first when he came home on a weekend. I truly thought he got used to the labs and stuff in CA......... :ph34r

  5. Has been losing weight and I was worried about Ostio...(of course). He was always called Big 'Mo because of his size..

Anyway, I finally got him to a vet. He went from 70# to 59# in 3 months. I new he was skinny but not that bad.. :eek

After x-rays, it was either Valley Fever or Ostio. Test results are in and it is Valley Fever. :confetti (Thank God) So I was wondering if anyone has had to deal with this? I have talked to Leah Cole and she is so happy for us...of course..the lesser of two evils..

I have done a lot of research already and called Skinny 'Mo's vet and gave her the pharmacy that I want to use and everything...

    Anyone???

Oh..and no flames please....here in the Hot season, they all drop weight and I just never realized how skinny he was..I have them ranging from 42# to 75#.....and I was so scared it was ostio.....my bad :ph34r:weep

  6. Domino had a very large one on his private are on the skin/fur. It was about the size of a nickle. I kept reading that they might bleed and then disappear. Well it did bleed a lot and it did finally disappear after about 6 months. Looks totally "normal" now. Good luck.

  7. I just posted this not to long ago. I am not sure where the documention is, but the GPA - AZ President (Leah) who is a vet and was a track vet for 20 years, and I just had this conversation and she said that a dog will not start itself to death: but a cat will.

Now this is a health dog with no medical problems.

  8. Maxs' arm was hurting and it took me forever to find the problem. (6 hours). I have no idea when it happened. He has a little cut on top of his shoulder. It looked infected this morning so I ended up cutting the hair and I put him in the sink and sprayed him with the sprayer with warm water. Then I put some quadriderm on him. I have no idea how long he has had this. With all the hair, it could have been days and it started to hurt when it got infected.

Anyway, is there something else I can do? I am not used to this. The greys get a huge cut and just keep on going. Max is totally different. I feel so bad.......

He is sleeping a lot. But he is eating and having normal elimination.

    Thank you

    Love and miss them all........

  10. Another lost due to old age..or was it a broken heart from the loss of Maverick?

We will miss you baby. Now who will keep the Greys in line?

Give Maverick a kiss and love to all that are waiting for us...........

  11. It might be a good idea to keep Jax separate from the other dogs for a while too. That is still a possibility.

How can they get her is they all have their muzzles on? I know next to nothing about the muzzles...

Is there a top on the pens so nothing from outside can get in? Did she have any contact with the other dogs while you were gone, inside or out?

No top, and yes they all have contact. Nothing sharp or anything to get on that I can see. This is so confusing....

  12. Remember about three weeks ago Jax got really tore up? So I made pens that they are allowed to be in thru doggie door. They are also muzzled now if I am not home. Jax and her boo boos.....(this is the story).

Anyway I get home tonight from work and she has another medium size gash on her side. I have no idea what is going on....any suggestions? I am so scared that a coyote IS getting in here and now they are defenceless.........Yes, all muzzles on when I left and still on ALL of them when I got home.

  13. Ahh Trish, I am so sorry. I wish all our animals had a way to just let us know that it is "time". Know that deep in your heart, you will do the right thing. Love is an amazing thing. Have strength..love fully for the time you have let, and let your strength be your salvation.
