  1. IMO grain free is just the latest buzzword to make sheep open up their wallets.

Racing greys worth tens of thousands grew up happy and healthy eating Purina.  Every farm I ever went to fed Purina Hi-Pro when it existed.  The muttleys here eat Purina One.

  2. The only dog that ever pulled me to the ground was a 30# terrier. :blush.  i feel your pain  I'm going through the same think with a 22 month old boxer mix but returning her is not an option.  So far the Voice Of God "Morgan NO" when she spies a cat or squirrel seems to work best.

Most certainly talk to the group.  There is no shame in returning a dog if you fear he will injure you. FWIW a trainer I worked with was totally against harnesses as she said you lose control but maybe that was just her opinion.

  3. No magic number  I've had dogs walk off the hauler into my living room and go to sleep on their backs and dogs that never settled.

Are you using a crate?  If  your kitchen is big enough for the crate with the door open as a woobie spot and to gate that might help. .Don't fawn over him.  That is my best advice.  Love him and go about your business,  That may sound mean but some dogs feed on doting.

  4. Thanks for the diagnosis.

No excuses for my mental health but  How silly of me to think I stay up late and sleep during the day as I spent 35 years bartending and being a cocktail waitress from the Gusher lounge at the Holiday Inn in Ardmore, OK

to 5 star hotels in Illinois..  Texas bars close at 2 a.m.. but in Chicago they can get a permit to stay open until 4 (5 on Saturday)  By the time we'd check out it was often 5 or later.  The good thing was that all the bartenders would sign up for 5 or 6  a.m. tee times at the public golf courses with no problem. :)  We were also known to get  beer and sit on the curb for two hours between 5 and 7 a,m,. until Rossi's opened again.

This is quite a statement! Are you going to change your name to ‘BlackMarketOrganDealerPam’!?!?

It's true.  I can go too the end of the block and get fresh green unbleached tripe. kidney. hearts, gizzardsl.;lver and whatever  offal appears that day.  That is at a supermarket chain. I have said before my neighbors pay good money for organ meat.  Just look up Caracerias.

A Vietnamese restaurantt up the road a auctions off whole hogs by the piece.  My neighbor went once and the rectum commanded the highest price.  Eep.

  6. I learned to drive in a 70's ford truck with three on the tree.  I was told if I mastered that I could drive any vehicle known to man.

Only my first car (Oldsmoble Omega) was automatic.  I actually had to special order my 2002 Protégé to get 4 on the floor.  Best thing in college was that the mooching sorority sisters without wheels would ask to borrow cars.  I'd smile and say "SURE,,it's manual" and they quickly faded away.

  7. Twenty years ago I met my first greyhound, FV's Little Girl, in Abilene, KS - "The Greyhound capitol of the world".   While waiting for them to bring her from the farm I met Bets on Chig, a greeter at the Greyhound Hall of Fame and the first greyhound I'd ever seen in person.  Amazing to think that now.  I paid $50 to cover Girl's  spay and shots and off we went to Texas.  I taught Girl about being a pet and she taught me about greyhounds.  The next 100 or so taught me more.

A blue slip is $30 and is obtainable or not, depending on the registered owner.
Raised feeders are fine, but it seems like the jury is eternally out on raised/floor feeding and bloat.  One can use plant stands from discount stores to achieve the same thing if desired.
May be a geographic thing or the fact worm infestations have changed  but I never had much problem with incoming greys and hooks but almost to a dog every dog that had put a paw down in Oklahoma or Kansas had Eherlichia...to the point where I learned to spell it (or a reasonable version thereof).
At first I was paranoid about grilling vets about anesthesia protocol until one country vet in West Texas said "no disrespect
ma'am, but any vet that doesn't know about greyhounds and anesthesia has been under a rock for at least 10 years".
I say new adopters should borrow a crate to see if the dog needs one.  The number of crates bought and used for a month or two is enormous, but some dogs cherish their crate - with the door open as a safe spot.
Won't chime in on the human toothpaste issue.  Agree with above.

Bottom line is they are dogs.  Quirkily, wonderful dogs with a couple of differences than other breeds, but still dogs.  Don't wrap them in bubble wrap and tiptoe around them.   Enjoy them for them.
