    Oh Xan, I'm so sorry that happened! And things like that always seem to happen when you're low on $. I know. :(

     

    Suggestion: get some Betadine instead of peroxide. I bet a nurse/doctor/vet tech can explain why, but I've been told that peroxide isn't the best thing.

     

    Peroxide is cytotoxic (kills the new cells that are trying to grow). Best bet to cleanse wounds is saline. Betadine is generally only used on intact (closed) skin - if you want to use it, don't put it directly on the suture line. Speaking of sutures, they usually come out in 10 - 14 days.

     

    I've used that fight-breaking-up method you mentioned (pulling away by the back legs) a few years ago. Stephanie was VERY food-protective when she first got here - I fed her in a gated area, but one day Henderson bulldozed throught the gate & went near her. It was almost a catastrophe, but I was able to pull him away using that method (while my nephew grabbed Steph by the collar). It worked, but then again he's so low to the ground and his legs are only a few inches long.

    Shedding Like Mad!

    Sweeping & dusting pick up some hair, but spread a lot around and miss a lot, too. The ultimate answer is vacuum, vacuum, vacuum. Vacuum the floor. Vacuum the furniture & tables. Just vacuum everything! I have a dyson, which "sucks" really well, but it's pretty cumbersome with the hand-held attachments, so I supplemented with a Shark bagless lightweight vacuum. Sucks up very well, too, but the cup is small & needs to be emptied after a couple of minutes.

     

    All mine are shedding much more than usual lately, but Henderson (corgi) is out of control. I brush him, furminate him, etc., etc., but the hair just keeps on coming. And he's brown & white, so it shows up on whichever surface it's on. :P All the greyhounds and cats I've ever had all rolled together haven't generated as much hair as this one little corgi! (They TOLD me corgis shed a lot, and they really meant it! :P )

    A Special Needs Survey

    Stephanie "might" become special needs in the future (or maybe some people might consider her special need now, who knows?). She has a facial deformity that resulted in an extra short, slightly bent snoot (she gets hot/out of breath easily), and her lips aren't fully formed on one side: the bottom teeth & her tongue are exposed. And as for her teeth, she has only a few sparse tiny nubs on top, so can't chew any hard bones. I don't know if this will lead to problems in the future (hope not!), but I'm prepared to deal with whatever may happen with her. So far, she's fine!

    Scott I hadn't seen this - saw your other post, about the empty house, and couldn't believe my eyes. I'm so sorry! :( Life is so unfair sometimes. But at least your Will had his dad, and his forever home, and went to the bridge with someone loving him. :grouphug

    Oh no. I'm so sorry. I know it's not really any consolation, but I know just how you feel....starting in Dec. '05, I lost Odd Cat, Tammy and Royal, in the space of 6 months. It sucks.

     

    Don't worry about being strong enough - you will be, for your baby Cricket. Whatever decisions you make will be the right ones, because you're making them out of love.
