  1. This is encouraging news! Keep it up, Brady! Thank you so much to you people whose dogs have, or have offered, to donate blood! :hope
  2. It must be catching - my eyes are leaking too! Winslow, you are an inspiration and so is your mom!
  3. Our vet suggested Revolution and we use it from May 1st until October 1st and have had no problems with it.
  4. I never clean my dogs' ears either. If there's an odd smell or obvious "gunk" we visit the vet! Kieran does a very good job of cleaning Otis' ears (and the cats' ears too!). It's a good thing hers are nice and clean, because Otis doesn't return the favour.
  5. Oh, Holly! I hope there is nothing seriously wrong!
  6. I like my vet for precisely this reason - she recognizes that I do know some things (and I recognize that I don't know everything! She's the one who went to vet school after all!). Regarding the corns, she had never seen them before, so I suggested she Google "greyhound corns" and gave her the Grasmere Hosp. site; she called me a short while later to say that she had checked it out and was confident that she could do the job, so now we go in once a month to have Kieran's corns hulled (she has one on each foot!). We have found that if we wait longer, the corns get quite large and deep. I don't know if other breeds get corns but I don't think so and my vet said she's never come across them before. I do agree they aren't "true corns" such as humans get from shoes that rub, etc., but the term is sufficiently descriptive that it's a good enough working title, IMHO. Regardless of what we call them, they ARE very painful for the dogs and they do need to be dealt with. Kieran wears her Therapaws when we go for our walks; in the winter, she wears her Blizzard Boots. As for other lumps, we will join in the chanting here too!
  7. Kieran had/has something similar; it turned out to be a yeast infection, so do check with the vet just in case. The vet gave us Surolan but it didn't totally get rid of it so now we are trying Otomax( which is usually for ears!).
  8. :grouphug I'm sorry! You are doing what is best for Jane, and while that is hard on you, you are giving her the final loving gift when you release her from her pain and stress. I'm glad your vet was able to reassure you regarding this decision.
  9. Firstly, offrecord, welcome to the wacky world of GT! Secondly, when you were reading this thread, I hope you noticed that not everyone was making negative comments about either the owner or the dog. Many of us agree with what you have just said, and did point those things out earlier in the thread. Thirdly, do stick around ! There is a wealth of good information on this site!
  10. Cynthia, If you read what I wrote I in no way blamed the dog. I was responding to another post and incorrectly quoted it. I basically said IF the dog's owners had complied with Lauren's thrice repeated request to bring the dog's muzzle none of this would have happened. The dog's owners are totally at fault for this horrific attack because they chose not listen. Paying Grace's vet bills is the very least they could do. They were irresponsible in the extreme and poor Grace suffered for their lack of concern. I am relieved and delighted to hear Grace is on the mend and feeling emotionally more secure. I hope this incident is soon forgotten by her. Sorry Zachary, but the dog's owners, while they do share in the culpability, are NOT "totally at fault" for this incident. It was Lauren's call to let them all out together, even though one was not muzzled. Lauren has already acknowledged that she made an error of judgment and she has learned, as we all have, just how important it is to have "muzzles for all" when they are out in the yard together. In any case, the blame game and the outraged indignation that some have expressed here, while understandable, is not helping anything at all. I think/hope we all have learned from her experience and will make sure it doesn't happen to any dogs in our care. I am really glad to see that Grace is on the mend and hope she has an uneventful recovery. to Lauren and to Grace and for Fenway and the foster for being so good while Grace is recuperating.
  11. I'm sorry to read this news! I do hope they got it all and that nothing shows up anywhere else! Ever!
  12. That is the sweetest thing I've seen in ages! Winslow, you're an inspiration and your new collar is beautiful!
  13. I hope the antibiotics do the trick quickly! I'm glad the vet didn't find any evidence of cancer!
  14. I am so sorry to read this sad news! I always loved to read about the Queen! I'm glad she didn't suffer.
  15. I am so sorry! Lacey really did "fight the good fight" and it is comforting to think of her racing at the bridge, healthy and pain-free!
  16. For about two weeks before Otis' dental appointment, he was panting heavily, especially in the mornings. After he had the bad teeth removed, no more panting! So maybe something does hurt her; it may be that she needs more than just a cleaning when she has her dental.
  17. What a frightening situation! I hope seizure meds work for Gabe; a lot of people would have had him put down rather than try to find the cause of these behaviours so God bless you for trying to find a solution!
