  1. I have no experience with the worms so I'll leave it to others for suggestions.

How much exercise is she getting? My new greyhound (unfostered) took probably 2-3 weeks to adjust to my home schedule. He would whine/howl/pace in the wee hours before dawn and not need to go if I took him outside. I found that if he'd had for at least one run/sprint or a 30+ brisk walk during the day, he tended to sleep through the night. Now that he knows his new schedule, he sleeps through the night even if I can't take him on a long walk.

  2. Hi there! I know a lot of people have weighed in, but I thought the more the merrier! First off, congrats on the beginning of your journey with a Greyhound. I just adopted my first in April. (He's, of course, the Best Dog In The World)

Raised feeders) Yes, people either are all for them or all against them. For me, it's more of getting the dog to eat slowly. Not all animals like soupy food, so you may have to play with exactly how much water to add. My dog, Rogue, likes to lap up the soupiness before getting to the kibble. I figure he's eaten from the ground his entire life, so I haven't made a raised feeder. I do feed him on a rug so he does not slide on the wood floor. I just ordered a slow feeder bowl online since Rogue will occasionally gulp too fast for my liking.

Cooling vest) I'm actually thinking of getting one, so I'm reading people's replies! We had a 2 day streak of hot weather and while waiting for the A/C repair person, Rogue did enjoy laying his head on an ice pack I wrapped in a towel.

Grooming) I use a rubber mitt or a soft curry comb meant for horses. Works like a charm.

Crating) Rogue was not fostered before coming to me so I used a crate for about 2 weeks to house train him and haven't used it since. He also hasn't figured out how to get up on the couch or bed...yet. Hehe.

Supplements) I'm using Olewo carrots and Rogue loves them.

Food) I have tried two flavors of Zignature and while Rogue eats it up, he is super gassy and the Olewo carrots are the only thing keeping his poop firm. So I'll be trying something a tier down next.

  3. If you use Android, I don't think they'll play for you. I have to use my desktop for Track Data replays.

I've pulled them up on my HP laptop and they only seem to load partially. I'll get the dogs' names and number, but no video box shows up. Will check to see if anything needs to be updated.

EDIT: Well, looks like it was my flash player causing the problem! Now I've got a lot of races to watch... :D

  4.

P Kay Ruger ran 156 races between Daytona, Wheeling and Jacksonville. Most of those races were at Daytona. His break wasn't that good, but if he could rush the turn 4th or 5th he would usually be in the money or win because he could close a little. I found it a little strange they would send a dog with little early speed from Daytona, a low end track, to Wheeling, our second best track and a track that demands speed to the turn. As expected he didn't do well there and was moved to Jax which is a good mid-level track and a closer can do well there. As it turned out he didn't do well there either, but it was a better choice of tracks and after Jax it was back to Daytona.

He was in the money 93 out of his 156 races which is a nice number.

He was a hard trying dog that was usually moving forward.

As I said above, and this is for anyone, if you want me to add his pet name and your name as the adoptive owner just post that information here.

    Dick

Thanks so much Dick! He was retired with a broken leg and limps around with a metal plate now, but he can still pick up some impressive speed. :D I figured he must have been earning something to keep racing for that long. Wish I could figure out how to get his replays to load...

You can put down my name as Sarah Y. and I call him Rogue.

  5. Been following along to all of the replies here, so thanks for the thread Zoopy! My new guy has been doing a similar thing, but not consistently. This morning was probably the worst because he started to pace and the whining escalated to howling and then actual barking. And this was after we'd taken him out to pee. I'm hoping it's all part of the adjustment period.

  6. Thank you all for such a warm welcome! The horses are all very used to dogs and while Rogue thought the horses were pretty intimidating at first, he's quickly growing accustomed to all their various sounds and movements.

@45MPHK9, yes, Rogue is from NGAP! It's cool to see other people here from PA. I'm not making it out to GiG this year (thought it'd be a little soon for my new guy) but I'm excited at the prospect of eventually meeting with with more people ad their hounds.

  7. Hi all!

My name is Sarah and I adopted my first greyhound this month! He's also the first dog I've owned in my adult life. His name is Rogue (reg. P Kay Ruger). He is five years old and has been off the track for about 8 months. A broken leg ended his career and he has a slight limp due to the metal plate in his left front leg. We live on the horse farm that I work at in Pennsylvania.
