Snarking & Couch Privileges
fastpointydoge replied to LaFlaca's topic in Training and Behavior discussion
Rogue was a bit like that, mostly sleep startle but maybe some resource guarding mixed in, when he was on the couch. I continued to allow him on the couch, but only if no one else was using it. If we were, he was sent to his bed with treats. About 6 months later, we tried sharing the couch again and he was fine. No issues since. -
Choosing an only Greyhound
fastpointydoge replied to Redbelly's topic in Training and Behavior discussion
It would be helpful to ask if the dog has ever been left alone while with the foster, for example: the one dog goes on an outing and the other stays home, either with human company or not. (This something I do with my dogs so they don't get too dependent on each other) I agree that confidence will also be good to ask about but not a deal breaker. My grey was low confidence and has a tendency to be noise-phobic but never had any SA or issues being the only dog for the first 2 and a half years after adoption. (And now I think he appreciates when he gets to stay home from outings that I take second dog to hehe) -
Right before Thanksgiving, we added a new pup to the family! Her name is Jyn and she's a bunch of terriers all thrown together. She is about a year old at the time of this post. It has been wonderful watching her bond with Rogue and seeing the playful side of him she has encouraged. Please enjoy some of their photos during this time.

You might find more people in your area on the GreyTalk Facebook group! I found a local-ish (an hour's drive away) Greyhound walking group that way. -
All Kind Of Poopers
fastpointydoge replied to FiveRoooooers's topic in Cute and Funny things Greyhounds do
Rogue can join the bush pooper club! He also did poop on a chain link fence. 😂 -
Between November-March, I take my grey with me fairly often to run errands. Usually a trip with errands for me than a walk at a park for him. The first time I did this I'd only had him a short time and he was an anxious mess when I left him in the car, and got poop all over himself. So we practiced on being settled in the car before trying again. Now he's a pro!

Rogue LOVES the cold. He comes alive during the winter months. We'll be walking down the street and his tail will just be wagging. We do the most of our hiking during the cooler months because of this. The summer humidity is hard on us both so we retreat indoors then.

My Hound Doesn’T Greet Me Upon My Return....
fastpointydoge replied to Rijnbeek's topic in Training and Behavior discussion
If I'm not out for very long, like under 4 hours, I get the same low key response. I don't mind it! Sometimes when my partner gets home late, he's so excited he greets both of us even though I've already been home haha! -
Bringing this up because I just bought Rogue a FitBark 2! Eagerly awaiting it's arrival. And would love to follow progress of other greys!

Barking, Training And More.
fastpointydoge replied to pixiesusan's topic in Training and Behavior discussion
Can't weigh in on the barking, my first one is the silent type! But he LOVES walking and we go for miles. Just not in the middle of July haha. Right now is our best time of the year and he usually gets his second wind at mile 3. -

Completely Settled? What Are The Signs?
fastpointydoge replied to Rijnbeek's topic in Training and Behavior discussion
Another one here to agree with the "gradual blooming"! (Well said palmettobug) I'm approaching the 2 year mark with my grey and it and seems every few months he's showing me another lovely side of himself. -
Happy customer here as well. Cheaper heartgard than my vet! I guess I'll have to switch to Petco...

What a striking looking guy! -
My grey seems to shed seasonally. So springtime and fall usually. Nothing this winter until yesterday, I picked up a handful of hair after petting him. But it has been a mild winter so far, 50s a few days ago! From other posts on this, I've learned that some greys rarely ever shed and others shed just as much as a German Shepherd.

Vocalizing And Snapping
fastpointydoge replied to glitter's topic in Training and Behavior discussion
You've gotten great advice! The breathing heavily and howl-y noise sounds like what my grey does when he is in deep sleep and dreaming. Often his eyes are rolled back in his head. The tail wags. And there are many sounds: whining, growling, woofing and howling. A vivid dreamer! He gets the air snaps when happy and also smiles... Which can look ferocious!- 8 replies

We seem to go 2-3 months between baths in the winter. (When we lived on the farm, I would bathe him once a month in the warmer seasons but he was out laying in the dirt then and it was easy enough to get him into the horse wash rack)

Raising A Borzoi Puppy In An Apartment?
fastpointydoge replied to weebird's topic in Training and Behavior discussion
Just going to throw in a few thoughts on things. Litter box: Only recently have I heard of this. Some people swear it works, others swear it means the dog won't be able to differentiate between when it's ok or not ok to potty indoors. Time alone/dog walker: If you work full time, ideally you could get a dog walker to come twice a day so that the puppy could go for a potty break and have a short playtime, never being alone for more than 4 hours. That could work out well for the first few months, then cut back to one mid-day walk when the puppy is able to make it for longer. -
