  1. How old is your dog? The first dog I started out with was a youngster (only 2) and did not do well by himself. He was a mess and after a month of him being completely stressed I did make the decision to return him. I took some time to think about it and got another dog about a month later. He was just shy of being 5 years old and fit in so well. He adjusted to life on his own fairly quickly and became what I can only describe as the love of my life.

    Just a thought....

  2. I have noticed that my water dish seems to be empty more than normal. And Mollie used to drink quite a bit so with her gone it has to be Dylan. (too tall for the little dogs) He loves to go out and Jeff has been home a lot and has mentioned that Dylan has been in and out a lot lately. He hasn't had any accidents but has always been somewhat of a OCD drinker. RIght before feeding he will gulp down a lot.

:hope that it is nothing...since Dylan and he are similar in age I can not even remotely handle another health issue.

  3. Hope you have gotten good news on your girl.

I went through a similar experience years ago with my first grey. After a long lists of tests he was diagnosed with FCE....similar things had happened with him. Very sudden onset. Obviously the recovery is dependent on the location of the cloat. But he recovered nicely and lived to be 12 and this happened when he was 7. He didn't completely recover bathroom control but he was happy and healthy other than that.

  4. My first grey Rascal had FCE when he was 7 as well...he didn't completely lose use of his legs but went down. His use of his legs came back pretty quickly but he didn't completely regain bladder and bowel control. But similar to a stroke he did get better as time went by....it was a few weeks when there were improvements. Then it was kind of as good as it got. He was healthy other than lack of bowel and bladder control He developed lymphoma at the age of 12.

He was in the hospital for about 10 days and did do better once he got home. I wish you the very best of luck...obviously no case is the same with FCE. Just depends what nerves are effected.

Rascal was also my everything...my only dog at this point. I was completely gutted...it was terrifying.

I am with KsFrets on this one. Not to sound flippant, but its really just a bite. Its not like full out attack where the dog mauled you and wouldn't stop biting you. You have already said how you were able to read a lot of articles about this very subject and realized it was your fault. I have been around dogs all my life, they have teeth and from time to time you get bit, that's just the way it is. No big deal. One of my dogs bit me in the chin when i was sliding her around while she was laying down, one of my dogs bit me in the face when I tried to move him by his collar when he was sleeping, one of my dogs bit me when... you see the common denominator here, when "I" did something to the dog. In each instance the dog is reacting to something I am doing, therefore I should not hold the dog responsible for reacting to my stupidity. In the grand scheme of things its not really that big of a deal, your feelings are hurt, move on and dont hold the dog responsible for your actions.

I don't think your dismissive attitide to someone new to dogs is helpful. This was a knee jerk reaction to something that is not expected. I have had dogs for many years and have not been biten by any of them. The OP has admitted their involvement to the problems. They are looking for opinions moving forward.

To the OP...think long and hard if you can move forward...talk to the group and get their thoughts...good luck on your future with greyhounds.
