  1. I'm new to the greyhound world too, and am wondering how did everything go? I am still reading and researching, so I would love to hear about your experience! BTW, I am learning a lot on this forum. It is informational and fun!
  2. Thank you! Start at back, go straight with brush, and repeat on other side? Gently. Thank you so much! ETA: some gentle circlular motions at canines. Is that correct? It looks easy, but I understand that there are many variables.
  3. This is very valuable information! And I appreciate it! Thanks so much
  4. Thank you! Thank you! Can you share a good way that show's how to brush? To Op, I am glad you started this thread, and I understand some greys are born with bad teeth. I hope you aren't uncomfortable with my questions. I hope you don't mind.
  5. I am still doing my research on greys and I'm sure dental hygiene will be my obsession as well. Can you share what the water additive is? And is it safe for other dogs? Thanks!
  6. Thank you for this. It's nice to know that someone took the time to make us see the hounds perspective.
  7. I usually check a local "patch" on line when I see or even hear something "weird". One night, a really strange sound woke me up, and I knew it wasn't a coyote. Went back to sleep. The next morning I was wondering what it could have been, and tried to recall the sound. Honestly, I thought it sounded like a big cat call. I checked the local (Diamond Bar-Walnut Patch) and luckily, there had been no recent sightings of Mountain Lions. I did see that a few years back, they found a Mountain Lion wandering around during the day, in front of City Hall. The local wildlife department has recommendations on line, what to do in case of an encounter. I hope that you never get into that position while walking your beautiful doggie, or even by yourself.
  8. Perhaps another animal, even possibly a predator? Coyotes, occasionally, show up around here between 1 am and 5 am. In early summer, one ran out of the bushes about 25 to 30 feet from where we were standing. Thankfully, it ran in the opposite direction. Therefore, last pee is no later than 10:30 pm anymore, and I bring a whistle with me. I only saw one once, during the day. It was passing through the wash, which is up on a hill that is covered with brush, shrubs and trees. It's just a thought, especially since the coyotes are becoming so urbanized.
  9. .... See? I find this funny and I don't have a grey yet! Although, Little Man may have different thoughts..
  10. I'm reading " Retired Racing Greyhounds for Dummies" and am stuck on the reward vs treat section, and the clicker section! Argh!! My first dog is a small mix...of..."I don't know what" and I trained him to do steps, sit. shake, walk on a leash, and stay....all with a calm voice, treats, and particularly, the steps, his favorite toy. I didn't read a book to do this, and I am getting confused. I do think, by reading posts on this sight, that I am beginning to understand some of the needs of a retired racer. I understand they are all different. I understand they are all new, to a life in a home environment. My frustation with this book is that, it's too specific for me. I don't understand what a clicker is or why it's needed. Just frustrated and am thinking too much about it. Help!
  11. Wow! That is amazing to me, regarding the comment on being a "single girl"....discrimination in the dog world? I understand doing what is best for the dog and its needs, but for lack of a better word, that is just ignorant. I'm glad it worked out for you! I do plan on putting in an application with only one group. What am I waiting for? It's a personal issue, but I am on an active quest, and appreciate everyone's input.
  12. How did you pick the one group you wanted to work with?
  13. I'm disappointed. I was so looking forward to going, and wasn't feeling well. I didn't go...Still reading and gathering information. Thank you so much for your inquiry. I am looking at some of the other posts on this thread, and am a little confused. I'm not sure how to research a group. Any help? When looking on-line they all seem to be/say the same thing.
  14. http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c182/lammonck/Mobile%20Uploads/2014-09/b6dc7d8a-890f-40d1-967b-00abe02cfa99_zps182b270a.png?t=1410682971 Finally! A pic of my Little Man who wants a companion!
  15. Thanks. I wasn't sure if the two terms meant the same thing.
  16. Thank you everyone for your input. It is expanding my knowledge on how many local groups there are here! Exhausting! In a good way. I have a question, just for information (the more the better, sometimes): what is the difference between a meet and greet, and a show and tell? If any? Thank you!
  17. Hello and thank you for this info! Another member here, posted one called SoCalGal...(I think)...have you heard of that group? Just wondering. It didn't come up on any of my searches. Although I haven't done a search lately....just wondering.
  18. I'm a newbie... but has anyone tried Bil-Jac? I don't have a Grey yet. I am doing research. My liittle guy does well on Bil-Jac. He is a mix with long legs and rose ears. Non barker and a great cuddler. Just wondering....and Hello fom Southern California!
  19. I am trying to get used to posting in this forum. I want to thank you for your advice. I am going forward with this book.
