  1. Lester sounds wonderful. Hopefully he has started eating by now! My 10 yo grey Rhoda will immediately stop eating if ANYTHING is bothering her. It never fails to amaze me how a very small issue makes her lay on the sofa and just follow me around with her eyeballs, acting like her life is on the line. No eating and bathroom only if absolutely necessary. I would wait on training, one thing at a time. Greys are smart and IMHO the best dog breed in the world. They are not much for over stimulation however and they tend to go in shut down mode to cope. I hope you have many beautiful years with Lester!
  2. And cats live longer lives indoors We just saw a neighbor's outdoor cat being carried off by a coyote. I agree with above post that most likely if Piper was going to "go for the cat" she would have done it by now. Perked ears and sniffing is not always aggression, in your case it sounds like curiosity. I think how the cat's personality is also important. some cats are tough and others are not so tough. Our cat runs the house, even though she has 2-3 teeth left and weighs 10 lbs.
  3. If you get a crate, I would get the open wire one, so they can see you. we had the plastic closed one in the past and all our greys hated it. Crates are a must if you are getting a young dog as no blanket, book, CD, i.e. anything is off limits to their chewing when you are gone! Also the potty thing, dogs don't do their business where they sleep. Maryl sleeps in it every night and naps often during the day with the door open. I think she likes the "this is my space" feeling.
  4. Had that same issue with our almost 4 yo Maryl. It took her about 1-2 months to get the hang of it and now she is a pro, saving pee to mark along the trail! I think it just takes time and patience. She's a dog, she will get it.
  5. I've been a lurker on GT for years and I have learned a lot. Mostly I have learned that there are many other people out there who are as insane about their greys as I am about mine. there are some things health and otherwise that are grey specific and this is a greyt place to help with this and that. Have fun with your new grey!
  6. I live with my husband Jeff and our 2 greys and one disgruntled cat Ruby, who is 14 and "in charge". And now for the official intros- Maryl on the left (almost 4 yo) and Rhoda (turned 10 in May). Neither one raced, we got them both at about 18 months of age. This pic shows waiting for breakfast sausage, sometimes patiently, sometimes not so patiently. Maryl, looking regal I think Rhoda in her younger years Ruby, who is doing pretty well for fourteen! thanks for looking!! They are my babies as I know you all know how I feel about them.
