  1. Don't feel bad all. If it were bloat he would wouldn't be laying down sleeping. Glad he's learned the joys of AC! 😄

Funny story to make you feel better: I walked my heart boy Dart, brought him in and he would t settle down. I thought it was bloat so I called the vet and told them we were on our way (4:30 on a Friday). We get there and Dart pukes all over their floor. He was fine, just an upset tummy. 😏

  2. I should clarify, that's Taylor. He lost his leg to osteosarcoma. Mason has all his legs, but he's sitting at the same weight Taylor is and he's usually 5-7 pounds heavier. He looks good. It's the weight loss that concerns me. Sorry for the confusion. 😄

  3. He was 86.9. Yikes. We have a vet appt on Friday and I'll take in a fecal sample. He certainly seems happy enough to eat anything I'm eating. 😄 I'm sure everything's fine and in overreacting but my vet is used to that with me. 😄

  4. He free feeds and he's always eaten basically what the bag says. He's 6 years old and weighed 93 pounds. I just did a fecal test not that long ago because he was having loose poops but it never hurts to have another one done. Ironically, he just ate a ton last night but I was in the room with him. This needing an audience seems to be a new thing. Thanks for the ideas.

  5. I honestly didn't realize how thin Mason has gotten (his stripeys hide everything) and now I can see hip bones and ribs and shoulder blades that I couldn't see before. He's going on the scale tomorrow to see how bad it is.

So, I hand fed him yesterday and he ate a ton of dog food but then had a rumbly tummy and loose poop this am.

Is this something to be worried about or something simple? Is it time to change food? I feed Iams green bag and both Molly and Mason have done great on it. Is it a vet visit?

I should also add we walk 2-3 times a day for 10-20 min at a time. Molly had been eating way more to make up for the exercise. Mason hasn't been lately.

This is how I lost my heart boy Dart so I'm panicking. Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

  6. Since we went for a walk in the forest I checked the dogs and I found a tick on Molly in the webbing between her toes. It bled a tiny bit when I pulled it. Do I need to do anything? I haven't started Frontline for the season since it's still been freezing at night. Obviously, I'll be giving them both a dose of Frontline ASAP. Anything else I need to do or look out for? It's my first tick experience.

  7. My 2 DON'T do well with fosters. They just don't like having their space interrupted, their routines interrupted or my attention taken. And, quite frankly, I don't do well with fosters either. I love them, but 3 dogs is a lot to manage. I've decided to help my rescue group in other ways.

However, my guess is your dog is crying out for attention and feeling a little like a grumpy child whose parents just brought home a new little brother or sister. Maybe take her out for a walk on her own and give her some "alone" time. And, it might not hurt to start crating again until she can be trusted again. And, retraining.

    Good luck.

  8. My humidifier isn't working and so our air is really dry. Also, it's cold out so we're not walking as much. Mason hasn't been sleeping through the night. I also took him in for a urinalysis and it came back clean. He also went on antibiotics just in case. I literally could have written your post.

I never thought about the dry air as an issue. I just assumed it was because we weren't walking as much. If they go out in the yard they're not as, um, productive as when we walk. :)

I do think that the dry air is the cause of the drinking and peeing more. When we walk he's fine and sleeps through the night.

My current plan is to wait and see and keep an eye on him. If it's still going on when winter is over we'll re-evaluate. I know it seems a long way off but he's eating, drinking, peeing, pooping, and not in any pain or discomfort. Also, I've gone through this the last 3 winters with one or the other so there's a definite trend here. I'm not sure if this is the answer you're looking for but I hope it helps.

  9. Absolutely. At one time I lived across the hall from my BFF. I had a Grey and she had a Samoyed and they were constantly together. One of them picked up a bug and they passed it back and forth. They both had the big D. We went to the vet and he gave them both metronidazole and an antibiotic (more precautionary). Meds and chicken and rice for a few days and they were better than new. We thought about separating them, but they were both sick and her Sammie was having NONE of being separated from her buddy. :)

  10. I think Mason may have a UTI even though it's extremely rare in boys. I found a dried pee stain on the carpet in another room, he was up every 4 hours during the night, and today, even though I was home early he peed on the driveway because he couldn't make it to his "usual" spot on the lawn. He doesn't have a temp (I checked) but he's been "off" the last few days. Nothing I can put my finger on, but just not himself. I hate to go to the vet for this but I'm thinking a urine sample might not hurt.

    Thoughts?

    TIA!

    A VERY Tired GG

  11. I'm so sorry to hear this. I have no advice as I have no experience with this but my heart goes out to you, Taylor and Face. Please keep us posted. I do know a dog who was MICH older who successfully made it through an amputation.
