1. I am so sorry for your loss. I sit here in tears for Martin and Holly. I look at his beautiful face and wonder how on one hand there are the Holly's of the world who look in Martin's eyes and see such deep, true beauty - and how on the other hand there are human beings who could do this to such beautiful souls....

Run free, Dear Martin. ...And remember the time that you had in loving hands....

  2. I am so glad that you are doing well after your surgery!!!

Both Cisco and Poncho drink out of the same bowl. I feed them in 2 different areas in the kitchen, Cisco eats really fast and wants to eat Poncho's food, while Poncho eats rather slow and will growl at Cisco.

They walk just fine and I have no problems with them. They figured out by themselves who walks right next to me and who walks next to the other.

We have 2 pillows for them in our bedroom and they pick on which pillow they want to sleep. Both of the boys are not allowed in our bed since my husband would probably move out... lol.gif Cisco actually never should the desire to jump up there and Poncho goes with the flow...

    Can't wait for pictures!!

Ditto on the feeding. JJ eats very fast - and will muscle in on Dustin's food. I feed them both in elevated bowls in separate rooms - and when JJ finishes, I hang with him so he doesn't go steal food on Dustin (who is thin already...). I do have two or three water bowls around the house (each boy has one with his food bowl), but have had it where I have one big water bowl and that works fine as long as there is enough. I like a second one around the house, but more in the event that the first one tips, etc. I don't want them thirsty. Best of luck with the two.....

  3. Confined in kitchen with baby gates and lots of beds to sleep on - and maybe with a muzzle seems like it might be a good option until he adjusts. I've been muzzling my two new boys - though I had not muzzled EZ and Jack in the past - but these two were directly off the track - no time in an adoption kennel, etc., and I was worried that they would get into trouble. Good thing I did - because they managed to push open the shutters to the greenhouse window and knock down a HUGE cactus. I would have hated to see an open mouth over that thing!!

On the flip side - if he was fine in the whole house - then I would say cover your couches w/some blanket if they are of a color where doggie-drool shows up and let him go that route - but I still, for a little while would look at a muzzle until you are sure that you have COMPLETELY baby-proofed the house. One thing to remember is that they are VERY tall, and though you may have had other dogs before, a greyhound can reach what he wants to reach.....to again, even though I feel horrible putting them on, it gives me peace of mind if I am going to be out of the house for several hours.
Good luck!!

(By the way, one of my new boys likes to chew on the wood that comprises the footboard of my bed. Fortunately, he is more interested in doing it when I am home, so I can stop it.....)

  4. So many different suggestions! lol.gif

Initially he ate a cup+ of slop, and left the rest. I brought him outside so he could potty, and he seemed to be ok so we stayed out for a bit (it was beautiful weather today) and putzed around in the grass. He did not poop. I'll take that as a good sign. We came inside and he finished the rest of the slop (2/3 cup) and drank a little gatorade..... and then a whole bunch of water! *yay* I took a look at his gums and they're back to normal. rolleyes.gif

Now had I waited an hour, I wouldn't have felt the need to start a thread. lol.gif

Maybe so, but we all know that sick feeling in our stomach when our houndies aren't right - and no matter how calm we are in the rest of our lives - panic sets in with the babies! blush.gif In fact, I bet your stomach felt worse than his!!!

  5. ...ok. He ate about a cup and a quarter of 'slop'.

At least the slop got some fluids in him. My angel Jack got the explosive sort every so often...and lost appetite. But I agree with all the others, if he doesn't hold this slop in, then you need to be real careful of dehydration. Lots of prayers for Roscoe!!

  6. prayers for pilot - i am so sorry they have gotten this diagnosis. pm me with private e-mail info if they would like to get in touch with somebody just starting down the same road....we all need each other right now. although rivie's is a bit different since her tumor is on her rib - i have a feeling we will face many of the same things in the days to come. we are headed to the vet today for suture removal from her biopsy and to "visit about things" -- again, my heart goes out to pilot & family. teri

    Many prayers.

  7. How frustrating for you. You did everything with the best of intentions for our baby. As far as morphine, I had a horse who had to have it - and the vet warned me he may not feel well after. That was an understatement. He just hung his head for hours. Apparently, they get, as my vet referenced them, "morhpine headaches" which are extremely painful.

  8. As horrible as it is for us as parents of our beautiful hounds to lose our babies and how hard it is to read about each other going through it, I find it even more heart wrenching to read about those hounds who did not know the love that our babies do. At least in his final hours he knew that such love existed. Just crushing....

    Be at peace, Braden.

  9. My Bridge Beagle Lily had a back injury that was excrutiating and caused that wierd hunching.....Steroids fixed the problem....We will pray for something like that with pretty non-invasive treatments!! Good luck.
