The Slick N Shine soap is olive oil based and is the best stuff I've ever used. It's so much better than the oatmeal, allergy, sensitive skin shampoos. It's a bar soap that actually wasn't that hard to use and lathered up really well, then rinsed out in 1/2 a second. It instantly made Rainy's dry scaly skin normal looking and her fur is even softer than puppy fur! No residue left behind, no smell of soap left behind. She finally smells like a normal pup. Rainy's always had coarse fur, we currently supplement with a high dose of fish oil and vit E to help her with her itching, but since her bath I haven't seen her itch once... There are no more flaking skin on her rear!
She's even still baby soft after all that wallowing in the mud on Thursday/ Saturday. The bath was on Monday. I can't wait to use it on Sunshine and see how it makes her feel. Only $5 a bar and comes very recommended by me! I also got some soap for myself and it was nice, but the highlight was the doggy soap! I might even try using the dog soap on my own hair...

Dogs ears are set up differently than ours. I think there is a 90 degree turn in there somewhere which is why its safe to squirt stuff in? I squirt, massage, let em shake, then wipe out with cotton ball. Then apply some liquid powder for ears to dry up any left over liquid.
Dogs HATE this so a really good chewie is always needed.

Breathe and relax! if your pup is new maybe it's just muscle soreness? An hour walk in rough terrain could be a bit much for his muscles. Work into thing gradually and check his pads and inbetween his toes for any booboos.
We've had Rainy for over a year and she still gets muscle soreness if she runs too nutty at the park.

Rainy raced in 120 races according to greyhound data, but is missing almost a year of info so she most likely raced lots more. We got her when she was 4 and 1.5 years later no issues from racing. She does love to run around any fenced in areas. We just made sure she was on glucosamine from the start to keep everything happy.

This happens to Rainy from time to time, only she gets sore in her shoulder area. It happens whenever she plays too hard at the doggy park. I just giver her a dose of puppy asprin and she feels better in a few days. Once I increased her activity during the week she stopped being owie. I just increased the length of her walks, not too hard to do. Hope she feels better soon!

I would love to hijack and find out what everyone uses for their pup's coat. We use fish oil and Vit E, but Rainy has some skin allergies and her fur is always coarse. Sunshine's is like baby fur...

Never experienced it myself but I've heard about greyt success in cleaning and just slapping some duct tape on there. Change every few days and soak the bandage to get it off w/o hurting the pup.
-
Maybe his belly is just a bit empty? Usually when Rainy's belly is like that she's whiny and wants to go eat grass. A little bit of something to eat usually settles it down.
-
Recently I hear a tip of using duct tape. Slap it right in the tail since it won't stay on with gauze. Change it every few days. I imagine you would use some baby oil to get the duct tape off or soak it in a cup of water. Good Luck!

Other than the obvious spoiling, decide whether you want to be in the room or not. Everyone's comfort level is different and there is nothing wrong with that. Usually the vet will heavily sedate and give you a minute for the last kisses/etc. Just try to hold it together until it's all over. excessive crying will just stress your hound out more. Remember your doing the most unselfish thing in the world. Giving your hound a dignified passing to that rainbow bridge. :grouphug :grouphug

When we had fleas it was impossible to kick all 4 critters off the bed 24/7. LOL we just sleep with the fleas.
-
Here's what we just did
Flea dip everyone!
Use capstar every 2 days for a week
Use Raid Flea Fogger excessively throughout the entire Apt. Used 1 bottle for each small room.
Use Adams flea/tick spray on all bedding for dogs
Washed every fabirc item in the Apt
24 hours after flea dip use Revolution on everyone (only one who had chemical burn was Rainy, but she's a sensitive GH with allergies including fleas)
We had a full flea genocide!

Plus those greenies are expensive!
-
((((Hugs))))) I really hope she can pull through! What a nightmare. What shots did she get?
-
Wait a min... Are you sure there's uh... presents in the sack? I remember hearing somewhere that it take a bit for the sacks to wilt and go away. But the vet should knows that, hopefully?
-
I would call the rescue place and ask them what is goin on! Did the vets even neuter him? Wierd....
-
Maybe flea comb him to see if u get anything? The vit E will help his skin heal from a flea allergy so it's not a waste. Poor guy I hate when they get itchy! Must be so horrible for them.

I think a protein allergy is rare. More likely he's allergic to something else in the kibble. How are his poops? Rainy had constant D for 4 months before switching to raw. Rawfed.com is a wonderful site for learning more about feeding
He could eat chicken, venison, beef, pork, fish, bison, emu, etc any type of meat that is obtainable. I have heard that raw feeding of bear is not recommended, can't remember why though...
-
A raw diet would be WONDERFUL for food allergies. That's why we switched to raw see post above for fish oil. Trying to post this on my phone and typing is a pia lol
It could be all in my head but I feed fish oil for coats and vit e for skin. At least that's how I think about it in my mind.
-
Its diff than vit E but its better than nothing. I remember reading 1 pill per 10 lbs is the max dosage. I give Rainy (70lbs) 6 and Sunshine (50lbs) 3 a day. Olive oil works too or even some eggs.
-
All that fur is going to be a problem.. Can u monkey pick your way to get a glimpse of the skin?if he itches all over it won't matter where you look. Lol I could see the scales that Rainys skin had become but she is a non furry grey.
Since he fairly new maybe you can just add some oil into his food and that coupled with some quality food will fix things.

Have you tried flushing her eyes out with some saline? Maybe she's getting into something outside that's irritating them? Or is there any reason she can't sleep during the day? New pia puppy? Construction? Loud neighbors?
