  1. Hi, Met you at the Trailhound walk 2 weeks ago. Things look good at home with Heath. Missile and Ken and I hope to see you again real soon. Our dogs look like brothers.
  2. Sweet dreams to your precious one. My condolences. Bless you and your family for loving a greyt.
  3. Wow- I didn't realize it could be so frequently. I was aiming for getting it done once, practising "brushing" every day and then not having to get the full dental again. Silly me.
  4. I keep reading that dogs are getting multiple teeth cleanings. How often do they generally need to go or is it as I suspect, dependant upon the greyt?
  5. I'd agree. Vet ASAP. Missile threw up his breakfast once just seonds after he ate it. Not sure why, but my guess is he was eating so damn fast - even with his new break fast bowl. I wound up feeding him smaller meals throughout the day and did not give him kibble - thinking he agitated his throat and wanted to make sure he didn't purge again. It only happened once -but if it was happening on multiple occasions, I'd get him to a vet.
  6. OK gang, all good advice. Will report back after a while to let you know how it went. Thanks a bunch!
  7. I have not tried any sort of prescription. The thing is it is hard to believe that he is allergic or having a reaction to a food ingredient when he puke only sometimes. If he had a food sensitivity, wouldn't it happen more often? Regular human pepcid? Is there a particular brand that you use? Spring Valley, in a white bottle with a yellow and green label. They must not taste bad, b/c she eats them right up. OK, may try this. Will research what it does exactly.
  8. now he already gets a half meal at night, so would i substitute or add the bread?
  9. We went from Eukaneuba to Merrick to California Gold in about 10 months time. California Glod is supposed to be one of the blandest good kibbles out there. My theory was that Merrick was just too rich. Stool was never good and puking was more frequent. Not sure where to go with food from here.
  10. Hi, I thought we had the puking up yellow bile thing under control by feeding Missile a 1/2 cup of his kibble at night (that we reserved from his dinner meal at about 6pm). We feed him around 10pm before bed because I read here that sometimes when greyts tummy's are empty they puke up the bile. Well, the situation abated for a bit but now seems to be back, for the past few weeks he is puking the icka up about 2-3 times a week in the early am around 5am. I also read it might be the food. He is on California Gold kibble, white rice, chopped boiled chicken, pumpkin and a little cottage cheese. We arrived at this meal combination after switching kibble 3 times (slowly) and going to bland food in-between to control the diahrea. Eventually we figured out that if we keep the bland food in there a little and mix with the kibble - he has great stools. So we cured the diahrea problem, but now the morning puke fest seems to be back even after nighttime feedings. Any help to offer?
  11. Also maybe a rug on the tile floor would help. Temporary accomodation to help ease her. Sweet, sweet 4 legged one.
  12. Wow, you did better than me when this happened to my guy. I stood in total fear trembling for what seemed to be an eternity while Missile choked on a normal size doggie biscuit. That was within a week after we got him. He wasn't used to biscuits it seems and he tried to scarf it down without chewing. It got lodged in his throat and he wound up with a scratched esolphagus. I printed the instructions with the picture and feel a little more adequate and armed now. Thanks for your story and for being such a model.
  13. Blessings and peace. Letting go is the ultimate act of love. May you find solace in knowing how much you love your Scooter. For he already knows how much you love him.
  14. Bland food formula from my vet: Here's what my vet told me is the daily formula for a 25 lb. dog. Since Missile is almost 90 pounds, I multiplied this by 3.5 to get correct proportions. I split these out to 4X a day. While it seemed like a lot of food to me, his stool was very little while on this diet. We eventually added in kibble and subtracted the bland proportionally when his stools got more regular. You can substitute the de-fatted ground beef, I stayed with the chicken. Daily bland food proportions 25 lb. dog Rice dry (cup) 1 Boiled Chicken (tbs.) 8 Cottage Cheese (cup) 0.5 These were my feeding times for about a week: 6am 10am 2pm 6pm It seemed to work for us.
  15. Something similar happened to me a few months ago. Out on a walk with Missile who is basically friendly. A family was walking 5 dogs, 2 off leash. Missile was gretting the 2 off leash when one of the on-leash dogs started pulling and growling and tore away from the child that was walking him. That set off the 2 off-leash dogs who then started attacking Missile. He wound up with a small bite on his hind quarter from this little lap dog before we could all break apart the dog frenzy. My friend told me to walk with a stick, which I have never done? What would I do with it? Hit a dog? I don't think I could do that. When the other dogs started to attack Missile I had this instinctive reaction and blanketed him with my body, which was probably the absolute wrong thing to do, but at the moment I wasn't thinking of course. If I had pepper spray and used it, would the other owner sue me? How do you handle that? I'm sorry Missile got hurt. I haven't seen pepper sprays for sale in the UK, but I think you can probably get them. In your case I don't know if the owner would have been able to sue you had you used a spray. But in my own personal opinion, even though his dog was leashed it wasn't properly under control, as you say a child was walking it. We had a thread here a while back as to what age people would be happy to give full responsibilty of a dog to a minor. And if I remember rightly most people seemed to think 14-16 years old. Thanks for responding to me. It is so hard to think about the dogs getting hurt. I am glad Joe is on the mend.

  17. Me too, this is what I am doing. I decrease his dinner by 1/2 cup of kibble and give it back to him just before bed.
  18. Just another opinion. What if it's not the food and it might be hookworm or something? My guy had hookworm and we took him to the vet to get tested. The only symptom I was aware of was the uncontrollable diahrea (we tried changing food and bland diet etc).
  19. Well Missile has been puking up the yellow stuff both on Eukanuba, when we first got him, then on Merrick, which we are switching off of and now on a blend of Merrick/California Natural. So I am inclined to think it has to do with the empty belly syndrome. I started giving him a half cup of kibble at night with a teaspoon of Neura Meats. We are still trying to deal with loose/diahrea stools so that's the reason for food changes. ;-(
  20. Never thought of that either. Missile seems to like the car, never thought he might get sick on a long drive. We'll be ready.
  21. Bungee cording the luggage. I can't believe I did not think of that! Missile likes to lean against the metal gate when we drive. I don't think he can do that if we put down the seats because they don't lay flat. Are you recommending then to put the seats down to give him more room? What do you use as your barrier between you and the dog? Your seats should lay flat, you may not be putting them down correctly. I did that the first time too. On mine and my sister's Liberty, the back seat flips up against the back of the front seats, there's a little tab of webbing you use to pull it up, you may have to feel around in the crack to find it. Then the back of the back seat lays down flat. My SUV is fairly smaller than yours so, yes I had to put my back seats down to accommodate 2 big boys. I don't have a bonafide barrier, I use the extra wire piece that goes with one of my crates. It's that extra piece you put in if you're starting out with a puppy to make the crate smaller, then take it out when he grows big enough. I bungee cord that to the back of the front seats headrests. Scott would prefer to ride in my lap, so I do need to blockade between the seats. Seats are 'almost flat. But I like the idea of one seat down now. Think we will be trying that.
