  1. Well, I have been using Musher's Secret and absolutely love it. Missile doesn't mind one bit and I put it on - on his rug by the door which is about 6' Round. So any resudue goes on it before we head out. I think it might also soften/moistruize the pads - kind of like a parafin wax manicure! to help prevent dryness and cracking. God, I love my dog. Thanks everyone. Didn't want to use it until I got the skinny on it. Look at you, a Sox fan!
  2. Thanks all. Some really good suggestions. What a greyt site this is! Appreciate all of the experience and wisdom offered!
  3. Thanks much, I was hoping someone might have tried the product. It is strange that neither the package nor the website indicate the ingredients. There is a slight menthol scent that I can detect. I will try it and see. I have no choice about not walking on salted areas. We are surrounded by it, even if i drove somewhere we would have salted roads. The back yard is fenced in and has a crusty/icy top layer from the snow frezzing and re-freezing. So he only uses the path that we dug out to get in and out of the yard for his walks. Wish he would run around out there, but he doesn't. Won't even chase me. This was my other choice. The pet store person said this product was good if there was an open cut on the paw from crack or split. Gonna go with Mushe's and see today. Thanks for checking in.
  4. Bungee cording the luggage. I can't believe I did not think of that! Missile likes to lean against the metal gate when we drive. I don't think he can do that if we put down the seats because they don't lay flat. Are you recommending then to put the seats down to give him more room? What do you use as your barrier between you and the dog?
  5. I recently purchased a wax product called Musher's Secret from the pet store to help protect Missile's paws from the damage of salt and snow/ice during winter. The ingredients are not listed on the container nor on the website, but the pet store salesperson assured me it was safe and that she uses it on her dogs. Here's what the web says about the product: Musher's Secret: No more burning from salt and chemicals, no more burning from sand and sandburn, no more burning from hot summer pavement, no more sore cracked paws. Prevents abrasions, burning, drying and cracking. Musher's Secret allows perspiration to escape through toes. Very safe to use. Mushers Secret is a extremely dense waxed-based invisible barrier cream that forms a breathable bond between two surfaces, and which remains very tenacious even when extremely hot or extremely cold. Does not stain, non-toxic, non-allergenic. Anyone have any thoughts about this? I really want to use it, but would like to know if anyone else has used anything like this at all. We tried putting booties on our boy and he fought it all the way. I decided not to stress him with them, but definitely want to protect him. Our daily walks are on salted asphalt and/or iced up snowy trails in the height of winter - like now.
  6. Hi all, I am thinking ahead about our summer trip to Grapehound Bound in NY in July. We'll be driving to the event from MA. My grey loves to drive in the truck. I have a Jeep Liberty with a gate behind the passenger seats so Missile has plenty of room to stand up, turn around, sit and lay down. But the longest trip he's been on with us is about an hour. We will be traveling about 6-7 hours (with breaks) when we go to the Grapehound Bound. I am wondering if I should put down the back seats and move up the gate. If I do so Missile will have to share space with our luggage as there is no where else to put it. I think he could really spread out there and we could put his favorite bed in there for him. But I worry about luggage moving and all that. So any advice is appreciated.
