  1. Those beautiful eyes can stop you in your tracks. Blessings dear boy and family, blessings to you.
  2. Here too, sending easy rythmic breathing and heart beating to you all....
  3. Ohmigosh! That is incredible healing happening! Just wowee to the formerly oweee.
  4. We've got a vet appointment for tomorrow. They couldn't take me today and I expect to get the antibiotics tomorrow. Wound actually looks a little bigger now that the puffiness has gone down a bit. He has not pawed at it at all and interstingly has only been sleeping on his right side. Smart puppers these guys are. His attitude picked up a bunch today. Cookies, cookies, cookies, we got em all. Will do. Thanks again everyone for your emails and PM's and advice. I think we are on track to a good healing situation!! But this was pretty hard to take because Missile is such a gentle and friendly soul. I really want to get back into a group dog walk next week to see how he handles the "re-entry". Hoping there are no issues as a result of the bite.
  5. Thanks, everyone. The wound looked like it was drying/scabbing already today. He left it alone all night so I did not put on a sock or anything. I am planning a vet trip today. Applied a triple antibiotic gel this am and will wait to get to vet before doing anything else. I really appreciate all the good advice. This is my first and hopefully ONLY bite situation.
  6. What do I cover it with? I have a pet medicine bag. I am worried that if I try to tape it with gauze pad and tape, he will paw at it and make it worse. I don't see a puncture like a tooth went through. It is more like teeth pulled the skin off. The hair is in the way a bit and I think I may want the vet to cut it off - from the overhanging skin.
  7. Here are a few pictures of the wound: http://www.kensweb.us/bitemark/
  8. OK, thanks. It is oozing now. I need to give it a db to wipe it. I did talk to the owner, we are all members of the same walking group. All shots are up too date, everyone feels badly.
  9. I wish I could post a pic here. The wound is about 1 inch below his left ear. He does not seem to have pawed at it at all so far. But if he does it will be trouble becuase his dew claw could go right in there and make a worse rip. I have kept a close eye on him. He is usually a very playful guy and has been very subdued since this happened today.
  10. My grey got bit in the head today by another grey during a greyhound dog walk. Looking for wound care advice. I cleansed the wound within 30 minutes with vet prescribed wound flush that I had available. Then I dabbed on Biocane with a cotton ball. The Biocane has an antibacterial agent in it. I've done this cleansing/Biocane application 2X today and will do it once more before bedtime. Any recommendations? The bite is about the size of a dime and not necessarily just superficial. It is deeper but does not require stitches. Looking for any other ideas on how to care for doggie. Thanks a bunch. Any support appreciated.
  11. Come to think of it. I probably would not jog an 11 year old. Long walks or brisk walks would be about it or jog a few steps every now and then.
  12. Not sure if you can get this on-line but the magazine "Celebrating Greyhounds" had a really good article on Running with Greyhounds in their last edition. Here is the link: http://www.adopt-a-greyhound.org/cgmagazine/current.html - maybe you can find out if you can get a copy. Here are the things that I learned from running with my dog; 1) work you way up to it very, very slowly. run, walk and realize that it is not easy for a greyhound to run slowly or at a tempo pace. they have to build up their endurance. 2) alternate roads/trails so that paws can get toughened up 3) bring water for the dog 4) it's not your run, it's your dog's work-out. it's all about the dog, monitor how they are doing and adjust your distance, speed, based on how they are doing. 5) i never run/walk over 3 miles with my dog. that seems to be a nice comfortable distance for him that he really enjoys and doesn't knock him out for the day. he is pretty fatigued but still has energy to enjoy the day. 6) i don't feed any treats while on the jog 7) my dog is always short leashed while jogging. we stop enough for him to smell, pee and poop - that 's the walking part. not every dog will like to jog. make sure that your dog enjoys it so they don't get stressed out. good luck. my god, missile LOVES to jog. Bandit has limited interest because he is still getting comfortable with our home - less than 2 months. GOOD LUCK! Almost forgot. I obey the 2 hour rule, no food before or after for at least 2 hours when we jog.
  13. What a sweetie. We have a portrait of Missile that is in process. It will be a treasured item for sure, like yours.
  14. I agree. Missile had a pine needle stuck in his eye during a walk 2 weeks ago. I called the E vet and she said bring him in ASAP. Can't mess with the eyes. In an odd circumstance, when Missile jumped out of the truck in the vet's parking lot, I looked at his eye/nose area and the thing had worked it way out on it's own. I kept the vet appt. just to make sure no more broken pieces were still inside. All was well. But it was a get it taken care of right away situation. Hope you get vet attention as soon as is possible.
  15. Missile is 90 pounds and I give him 10mg. Pepcid 2X a day with meals. He gets less of both meals so I can add a third mini meal at night before bed. It seems to work like a charm. Prior to the Pepcid he was puking up yellow bile in the am's before breakfast, sometimes in the evenings about 1-2X a week. It was awful watching him. Most of you administer the Pepcid before meals. I administer with meals and I tell you, he has only ever puked once in about 3 months on it.
  16. Try these balloon booties. Missile had a back leg injury in the winter that I needed to keep bandaged and dry - his nails eventually went through the newspaper baggie and saran wrap, so I put that on first, followed by a bootie. The IV fluid thingy seems way too thick, but I haven't used it. The booties were EXCELLENT! I got him the XL size so that he had room to maneuver in them, but they stayed pretty snug around the paw. http://www.gollygear.com/pawz.htm?gclid=CI...CFQMUGgodkFUziQ
  17. Still not too late for prayers I hope, just getting here now. Lots of love and healing thoughts being sent your way.
  18. Wow, such a hard call. Missile had his teeth done and he was crying and whimpering so much when he came out of sedation that the vet techs said they would appreciate if I would come as soon as possible as he was making a rukus. He did much better at home, even though he was a bit of a drunken sailor. Wish you could be by his side as soon as possible.
  19. OK so if you cannot see him, it's time to send the psychic love and healing. Everybody, on the count of 3: "Get Well, Johnny!" The prayer heard 'round the world.
  20. Prayer for your boy: Bring that temperature down and get him out of the woods. Cool and home, that's what we want.
  21. Hey I just checked out Heath's geneology. No wonder they look like brothers, Heath and Missile have HB's Commander lineage. He made it to the GH Hall of Fame.
  22. Whew, that's great. Missile just got his done yesterday. He was like a drunken sailor for the whole night. No extractions though, not as serious as yours. He did cry a bit. Hope you baby is OK.
  23. Missile loves his ears scratched. One day a few weeks ago I was rubbing his head and ears and he screeched. I looked in the ear to find it pretty red. Trip to the vets office revealed bacterial and yeast infection. Maybe something is brewing for your greyt??
  24. Prayers and Hugs for all of you. What love you all have to share. Just beautiful.
  25. Me too. I hope you have the opportunity to report the guy. A mastiff. no less, I was walking a friend's dog once and came upon 2 that were leashed and they were still menacing. The guy could hardly contain them. So sorry for your doggie. Let's hope doggie karma is at play and what goes around.... Even though I never wish any doggie or any person any bad will. May they have to pay retribution but mostly change their ways.
