  1. So that my Nadia's death will not have been in vain - please make sure that any vets who do major surgery in your Greys have on hand : Aminocaproic acid : - it may be of help with post-operative bleeding. I just wish I knew this last week.
  2. Hi all, we lost Nadia today- I guess she wanted to spare me from dealing with her recovery and rehab.
  3. I won't post much here, as Remembrance is a better place for this, but Nadia bled out in her lungs at the vet's office today and we lost her. I still think I did the right thing to try to beat the osteo, but I guess her body was just too worn. Godspeed, my precious girl.
  4. Way to go, Polli! So glad to hear that this beautiful girl is doing so well!!!
  5. that's probably the best advice EVER! i didn't sleep well at all last night , will try to get settled tonight so i'm fully rested for my girl's return home
  6. Sorry for the delay in posting on her condition. I just came back from spending an hour with her. Nadia is doing very well! Dr. Carroll said the surgery went very well and there was little bleeding. The little stinker managed to pull her catheter out and mess with the incision a bit, so she had an elizabethan collar on when I got there (I brought a muzzle with stool guard to make her more comfortable for our visit). When I left she was snoring comfortably in the exam room where they have her set up (it's her own quiet suite). She should be coming home tomorrow - hooray! The evil leg is off to get biopsied, to see if we can participate in the free chemo from the OSU. ETA: I want to thank folks who posted pictures so I wasn't freaked out by how my girl looked. I took some on my cell phone that I'll get downloaded later...
  7. Oh, Kristen, I am so very sorry for your loss. Ranger (Mr Moosh) is certainly doing the fandango with all of the other Greys gone before him. Godspeed, Ranger.
  8. I asked both my vet's office and the surgical specialty center (I think I called it a compression sweater tho), and they didn't know what I was talking about. I will ask again tomorrow. Thanks!
  9. My beautiful sweet girl goes in tomorrow for her amputation (as long as the x-rays of her front legs are clear) - please hold her up in healing light!! ETA: Today (Monday) is the day!
  10. I used generic Prozac for my Weim Theo who was dog-aggressive (and anxious), and had to play around with the dosage to get the right amount - he weighed about 80 pounds, my vet had prescribed 2-40mg capsules a day, but that was too much. He then wrote a second script for 20 mg capsules, and I ended up giving Theo 1 40mg and 1 20 mg per day and it was just right. If I cut back further, the agression and anxiety came back. This worked for me, so for less than $7 a month ($20 each for 6-month supply of the 20 mg and 40 mg) Theo was set. Remember that you have to get through the first couple weeks while they adjust to the Prozac - Theo was like a Zombie during the adjustment period. HTH.

  12. Team Destiny is going strong! Here is the summary as of yesterday: Lynn and Destiny "Team Destiny" Dx lymphoma :9-29-05 In Remission Since:10-18- 05 Believe In Miracles! So as Lynn says - Believe in miracles!
  13. WOW! I have to say, there's a lot of hope on this list! Thanks so very much!
  14. Wow! 3 more years! Isn't that GREYT! Thanks for that view - when my Weimaraner had lymphoma, I joined a group on canine lymphoma, and was encouraged by the list owner's dog Destiny's post-dx survival. Morgan has given me the same hope for Nadia! Thanks!
  15. Thanks, Robin, for the first-hand advice. I don't know that my vet will have a compression sweater, I sent them an email to ask. Is it something I could get somewhere? A week after amputation I have a friend coming down to help me pack my house (I'm trying to get moved to a more affordable location) - so I won't be alone with her and plan on being here most of the time. I hope she doesn't mind that we're doing rehab on my GreyGirl! Thanks to everyone else for the good wishes etc. - and Beth, I hope to run into you again soon!
  16. Nadia, my 10.5 YO retired racer/retired broodie, has been diagnosed with a bone tumor in her left rear leg, probably osteosarcoma. She goes in for amputation on Monday, and after the bone biopsy confirms OS, we'll get the chemo drugs from the OSU and start chemo. I know it will be tough, but I've got to give this old gal a chance. She's really enjoying being in my home and I'd like her to be here a while! Wish us well...

    Baba's Joe

Godspeed, Baba's Joe, and run free, forever. I am so very sorry for your loss. Lin
  22. I wanted to post a picture of Basia's urn - hope this is not too macabre or morbid for the list - but it kind of brought closure for me when I brought her home from the vet one last time. It will be the focal point of my memorial garden when I move to east Texas at the beginning of the year. I hope to have some large stones painted with the pictures of my four-legged babies. Lin
  23. Thanks, all, for your good thoughts for Basia's next journey, and the comfort I've received from your notes. Lin and the Grey Girls Alexa, Cinders, Tallulah, and Nadia
  24. I sent my princess Basia to the bridge Tuesday. Basia was a Whippet/Doberman mix who looked like a mini-Dobe with rose ears and hare feet. She was my first "bounce-back" foster dog, and my first foster failure. She was about 2 when I pulled her from the shelter, and had been diagnosed with Wobblers not long after that. Basia had had difficulty with walking for a while – her right front leg was about useless, and with her Wobblers, she needed assistance hopping up the stairs. But she wore a RuffWear harness so it was easy for me to help her, and she still wanted to be by my side at all times. Over the past few weeks she’s had more problems standing and maneuvering through the house. Even her acupuncture/chiropractic treatments didn’t seem to hold very long. She had deteriorated to the point where she just couldn’t get around, and would lay on a dog bed as the rest of the pack went about the business of being dogs. Her quality of life was gone, and I wanted to release her from the body that had finally failed her. Basia was my shadow, my pinhead, my little alert girl. The house seems eerily quiet without her announcing the doorbells on TV, or tattling on the other dogs, or just accompanying me to the bathroom. I miss you, girl. Thanks for being my companion for the past 8 years.
