  1. Thanks.

My vet thinks it is an allergic reaction to the Metronidazol though it started a couple of days after her last dose. That's why when the GI upset returned a week later, he opted for Tylosin along with Pepcid. She has had an ultrasound and two complete blood panels to rule out a lot of things (in regards to GI upset) but the rash does not seem to be going away (the GI upset seems to be resolving slowly).

I really appreciate the incredible amount of experience on Greytalk.

  2. I think if I was in your position, I would go ahead with the ultrasound, it could answer your concerns definitely. If it doesn't appear that anything else is going on, I would assume that he does feel nauseous and see if he could perhaps have cerenia or similar.

Although he has tolerated Gabapentin and Tramadol in the past, if he is a already bit off - they may be causing his GI to act up now.

A terrible quandary to be in.

  3. If it seems copious, flushing with a chlorhexadine gluconate 0.2% w/v (available from most drug stores) once a day for two to three days should take care of it - if it does not, then a visit to the vet may be a good idea.

As previously mentioned, any indication of blood in the discharge merits a vet visit.

  4. Assuming it is the Sojos grain free, I like it as a supplement to raw meat but find in general that Honest Kitchen Preference is better digested. I still like to ring the changes occasionally.

  5. In the case of a sting that causes facial swelling, the Benadryl should be repeated at 8 hr intervals for 24 hrs.

So it was most likely a sting with a reappearance of the swelling as the Benadryl wore off.

But definitely worth getting it checked out so that you can be prepared if it happens again

  6. Very daunting I agree, but I think the level of information they want is one of the reasons why their regimens tend to have a good results.

There are also vets on this group which I find reassuring

So I just sent my request to join this group as it's looking like I may need to start making some dietary changes for Neyla based on her elevated kidney values and the email questionnaire I got back seemed more extensive than the interview I went through to adopt my dogs! :lol I understand why they do it, it just cracked me up. But, thank you for the resource. The bonecancerdogs and artemisinin groups have been so helpful to me throughout Neyla's treatment, so I am grateful to have one for this issue, assuming they let me in. :P

  7. Cushings can present in different ways initially which is why diagnosis is often delayed.

I have had first, second and third hand experience with cushings and can assure you that if cancer is NOT a complicating factor it can be managed nicely - you know your dog best and as such will be the best person to make some of the decisions.

In the vast majority of cases the initial dosing of trilostane is way too high even if it is in line with what the manufacturer or vet recommends.

I would ask what your vet feels the dosage should be and then start at 1/4 of that amount or even lower.

Watch for any adverse effects (your vet can explain) if there are adverse affects stop the trilostane and when you restart - do so at a much lower dose.

In my experience the initial month should be spent testing the dogs sensitivity to the drug not trying to reveres the disease.

If there are no adverse effects but no improvement in the test results (we normally use the ACTH suppression test) - then increase the dose somewhat.

One of the biggest mistakes I have seen is that the dog's show improved results in a month so everyone thinks great we have the dosage right then a month or so later the dog has a crisis.

Again, as a general rule, once the blood values are in the normal range it is time to reduce the dosage. Another test a month or so later should tell you if you have it right, need to come down some more or increase slightly.

A dog that is well managed on trilostane usually does not have any side effects.

The goal is to have the results in the low normal range.

Wishing you all the very best and praying that there is no malignant tumor to complicate the situation

  8. It contains live cultures plus some vitamins and minerals

In my experience it works better than acidophilus or other yoghurt based cultures or probiotics.

You can get it from the vet it is made by Purina (not one of my fvourite companies but this stuff works)

    Pam

nope... is it a probiotic? i have her on acidophilus

  9. Have you tried Forti Flora

chase has been on Doxy for a week after being diagnosed with Ehrlichiosis.

Yesterday I missed her pepcid dose and rushed out the door to the lake and she really went downhill. She vommitted bile and water, and had some diarrhea, and stopped eating yesterday.

today I got enough food in her that I was able to give her the meds, and she has perked up some but the vet took a look and she is really tender.

He figured a gastroenteritis from the meds so we are getting her off the pred faster (why we didnt at first I don't know  )and they wanted me to fast her but sincce she already faster 24 hours i am skipping that part. a chunk of her issue at least was that she hadnt eaten!

    Any other tips or tricks?

i have both pepcid and zantac for her. i think they are saving the sucralfate for a heavy hitter if things continue to degrade.
