  1. Kasey is constantly trying to lick/mess with her Vet wrapped leg that has 20 stitches in it. I have tried muzzling her but she has such anxiety when you put it on, heavily panting and slobbering really bad. She even figures out how to get it off. It is a constant struggle and I am re wrapping a lot if I feel that the wrap is getting wet from licking. Tonight, after being gone a few hrs I came home to muzzle off(actually broke) and she had picked at the wrap, it was still on but I could tell she had picked and licked at it. Took it off to rewrap and it looks like she has a small area where she must have gotten a stitch out with all her messing with the wrap, not huge but gross nonetheless and now I am worried about that area. I don't think they could stitch this area again and it may have to close on its own, I will just keep an eye on it and see how it looks on Monday. Anyway, what can I do to get her to quit messing with it? I have tried putting a sock over it with tape and it helps but eventually she gets it down as well. I do not have an e collar but could check into purchasing that next but I have heard that Greys really hate those as well and with her anxiety she would probably really freak out, any experience or advice is appreciated as it will be a long two weeks if I have to stay home. Do they make one of those cute foo foo purse carriers for a 67 pound Greyhound
  2. I use biotene wash on guaze in my Greys mouth and it has the same ingredient, no issues, helps a lot too!
  3. Kasey is still taking it easy-wanting to pick at her wrap any chance she thinks I am not watching I finally decided to pick her up and let her lay on my bed under strict supervision so she didn't attempt to jump down on her own. Here is a shot of my 2 girls-they really love one another!
  4. My beautiful Grey, Kasey, cut herself somehow in our backyard. She was out about 10 minutes and came to the door with a lot of fur missing off her leg and a U shaped cut. Ran to the Vet and they kept her about 3 hrs and 20 stitches later she was able to come home with antibiotics and pain meds. For the life of me I cannot find anything in our yard that could have caused this. In the 2yrs Kasey has been with us she has not ever had anything like this happen. My poor baby-she is just taking it easy today and for the next 2 weeks until stitches can come out. Here is a pic of her relaxing, of course she is in full diva mode and getting anything she wants out of me-yes I even slept on the floor with her last night since she cannot jump onto my bed-I feel so bad for my girl, not to mention the guilt of not knowing what happened and not being able to keep her safe. Here's hoping for a speedy non eventful recovery! and here is my other dog, Sierra, bored as can be wondering what is wrong with her sister and why can't she play with me
  5. So so sorry, that boy was so loved at the kennel, we all thought he was special too! You guys provided such a wonderful life for him, it was short but it was good. I know Cairo is playing fetch with the best of them now, thanks for giving him a happy home and give that other pup of yours extra kisses as well, it will be hard on him too.
  6. Uggh, that is not what I wanted to hear. I am so sorry. Cairo is so lucky to have you, give him a big hug from Ryan and I.
  7. Congrats Lisa and Moody, Everyone at QCGA will be thrilled to hear that this sweetheart(not to mention volunteer favorite) is finally in his forever home! The true test will be whether Kasey chooses to give him the patented Sweetie-Kasey greeting kiss
  8. Thanks for my Cairo(Comedy)update, hang in there-it can be so frustrating when they can't tell you what is wrong!
  9. I am so, so sorry to hear that Cairo is sick. He was a favorite kennel boy for me and I am sad to hear this. Please keep us posted, Cairo is in my thoughts and prayers. May he be wildly chasing a tennis ball again soon!
  10. here is the site I was told about http://67.99.205.169/Merchant2/merchant.mv...egory_Code=TGH4 Have not ordered any yet but I was told you need to buy the oil and the powder and mix them to form a paste and then apply that to the teeth and gums. I emailed them and they said they have the oil and powder although I only saw the oil online so you may have to call to order both.
  11. I hear you! My Swissy came up holding her one paw high and then got on the deck and literally fell over and laid on her back with the paw in the air. I ran out in bare feet with a towel and got the huge piece of rock hard snow out from between her toes and she jumped right up. She normally loves the snow and even she is not enjoying it anymore.
  12. You could try adding a Probiotic, worked here. I use Prozyme, my Vet sells it but I get it cheaper online thru Amazon. Only took a few days to see results and you just sprinkle it on their food.
  13. My Vet is really pushing the dental vaccine for my 4 yr old Grey. She has 2 back teeth that seem to get infected quite often and my Vet feels the vaccine would help cut down on the bacteria that is causing the infections. She had a dental in July 08 and I just took her back to have the Vet look at the back teeth cuz the gum area was pretty red. $200 later and a weeks worth of Cephalexin they look decent again but I know the antibiotic is just helping the problem not putting an end to it. I REALLY don't want to have her put under for yet another dental this soon(not to mention the $400 price tag that I was hoping to only pay yearly)so the Vet says do the vaccine. I am so leary cuz I know I had read posts a yr ago that people were not happy with the vaccine. Has anybody tried it lately that can give me some input? Oh just a little background, I have tried feeding some raw and we always deal with bad diarrhea so that is not a real option. I brush and use Petzlife Oral Gel and give her a pig ear or Oxtail once a week as she seems to stomach those 2 o.k.
  14. I was told by a friend to try Head and Shoulders but make sure it is the 2 n 1 that has shampoo and conditoner in one bottle. It worked great on my Greyhound and Swissy who tend to get dry skin in the colder months. Of course I only bathe every 6 months or so but after the first bath their hair and skin looked great. A lot of people might not like the idea of using a human shampoo but it works and I have passed the secret off to many dog owners, some Greys and some not, and they always come back and say how great it is for dryness. Smells great too!
  15. Kasey has been on it before with no problems.
  16. Ooh, I hope someone responds to this with some insight cuz I thought the same thing when I read the can and decided not to try it.
  17. I use them, the dogs love them. Kasey, who is 4, had a dental in July and has been using them every other day since and I had the Vet Tech look at her teeth when she was in for nail clipping and she said they looked o.k but she was already showing some infection again in 2 back teeth and would still probably need a dental yearly. SO I am not sure how great they work but I figure it is working their teeth regardless so it has to help and I buy the extra large so it takes my 2 a good 15 minutes to chew them. Also I buy the CET Hextra chews that also have something in them for breath and that I can definitely say works, it is worth it just for that if you ask me!
  18. I give Oxtails as a treat and they seem to take a while to eat so I figure they work the teeth a bit. A little pricey but I get them at my grocers with no problem and just buy a package every other week or so.
  19. I use a probiotic sprinkled on the food and it helps with stools and gas. I use Prozyme which is what my vet sells but their are others out there.
  20. I give 1000 mg. a day, chewable, one with the morning food and one with the night.
  21. After a trip to the dog park today I noticed my Grey has 2 nickel sized spots on her paw pads that are rubbed raw and bleeding a little, one on each front paw. I put some ointment on and wrapped both. Anything else I should do? Should I give her a pain pill? She has done nothing but sleep since I wrapped both feet so I guess that is a good sign but to me they look like they would hurt.
  22. Is Biotene a mouthwash or paste? Have not heard of that but would like to try it on my own Grey who has some pretty bad teeth and breath. Is this something you can get at a drugstore?
  23. My Grey always had runny poop from day one as well. I put her on a good food(Natural Balance) and then added Prozyme powder to her food, 1/4 tsp for every cup of food. Within 2 days her poop was firm, it has made a huge difference for me. You can order it online(just do a search for Prozyme) and they have a nice sized free sample where you just pay shipping so you can try it fairly cheap. I now buy it in the breeders size and it lasts about 4 months for 2 dogs.
