  1. Belle had another seizure today and it was a doozy. Her dad came home from work and we rushed her to the vet. She is now on 1 grain of Pheno which the vet said is a very low dose and they drew blood for a full panel work up and i should get the results by Thursday. On the way home she threw up and this is unusual for her as she has made quite a few long distance trips, Florida and Dewey. Except for being banged up the vet said she is healthy and her gums were bleeding from the teeth biting the crate. Thank doG she was in the crate when this seizure happened as they three that were in the living room went balistic trying to get to her.
  2. Our sweet Phawn has been gone two years today. Oh how I miss her. After her diagnosis we only had two short weeks with her. Her post mortem x-ray showed that her pelvis looked like swiss cheese from the cancer. Dear Phawn I cried myself to sleep last night thinking about you and I just want you to know how much we miss you. You were quite a character letting anyone in the house but you would not let them out. Anyone trying to leave by the front door or to go upstairs to the bathroom you would grab them by the seat of their pants. You were a big girl and everyone thought you were a boy. Because of your coloring some people even thought you were a pitt bull. You loved laying in bed and I remember when we were in Florida getting Belle how you curled up on the bed in the motel room amoung the pillows. I hope you are having a good time with Shadow, Penny & Dart and I know Al is up there playing with all of you. I miss you and will always love you and you will always have a place in my heart. 3. Love Megs pictures beautiful girl
  4. Belle ate her dinner with no problems but around 4 pm when I let her out to potty caught her having a feast eating dirt. Does anyone have any ideas about this. Could she be having seizures from eating dirt. I am honestly thinking of getting her heart worm tested even tho since I have had her she has been on monthly heart worm med. Oh she will be 4 on the 4th and we got her in January before she turned 2
  5. Henry is always pretty hungry after a seizure. Did you give her a snack after her seizure this morning? Seizures burn up a lot of calories. I give Henry half a meal after a seizure. She had breakfast which was about 2 cups of food - dry, a dab of canned, about an ounce of water and a dollop of vanilla yogurt. Which is a normal breakfast for her. She was also drinking a lot of water. We still have to watch for a pattern before the vet medicates her
  6. Just pottied the hounds - Belle is put out by her self and busted her eating a meal of dirt. She was going to town and having a feast.
  7. No I had not seen that thread but come to think of it she had that first one 11 to 12 months ago, the second one March first and today the third one. I wonder if it is spring related? I do not know if she had one at the training farm in OK or the kennel in Jax but I know up until she was 1 year old there were none. I did contact one of her siblings' mom and she has had no problem and two other siblings parents I e-mailed but the did not respond.
  8. Belle's seizures were 11 months ago, March 1 and today. I wonder if it does have something to do with Spring. Last year only had one and she will be 4 on the 4th. of April. I only know of the three that I just mentioned. Up until 1 year of age I know she was seizure free but had training in OK and then a kennel in Jax so I do not know if she had any there..
  9. Her first seizure was very bad and they did have her on phenobarital for about two weeks and then took her off. Wanted to take her off cold turkey but I got upset and he had her on 325mg 2/day to get her off of the mega dose. Compared to the last two it was the worse as she was in the seizure a good 15 min. post seizure another 15 min and was lethagic after wards for at least another half hour. She could not do the stairs and had to be carried down. What is so strange they all have occurred whiled she was sleeping. Nothing new or different had been given to her. A new kong which we got her about two weeks ago, food, treats she has had before. I am thankful that she was crated when this happened as the other houndies heard her and went flying to the crate. I have a feeling they might of hurt her if she was not crated. AS mild as this seizure was I am willing to wait and see what the pattern is.
  10. No she is still in a wait and see. Her first one was about a year ago, then one on March 1 and now this one. He told me to watch her for a pattern. This one was very mild compared to the other two. The first one was the worst. I understand that they do not medicate them unless there is 3 or more a month or if they come in clusters. I am so thankful that she was in her crate so the other hounds could not get to her to hurt her what is so weird is that they have only happened while she is sleeping.
  11. around 7:15 this am Belle had another seizure, this one was very mild. All three of her seizures are happening in her sleep, two in the am and one around 9 pm (March 1). She did wet in her crate this time and very scared after her post seizure with tail very tightly tucked. Her legs were stiff with twitching in her body. Both seizure and post seizure lasted about 1 minute. Have called vet's office and am waiting to see what her vet wants to do. They do not think she will have to be seen yet and they are noting this on her chart.

    Vicky

So sorry for your loss I can feel your pain having lost a few myself.
  13. We also changed vets not that the vet we were going to was bad but I did not have confidence in his Associates and his techs were something else. Hershey was spayed in December and came back into heat in August bleeding so bad that she went all the way down to the matress pad the tech told me I was crazy she was not in heat. Then would not give me an appointment for her for two weeks. I said she could bleed to death by then. Got really upset and wrote a letter to the chief vet and owner of the clinic. Mailman picked up the letter on Tuesday, the vet called me Wednesday, Appointment Thursday, Surgery Friday. More perks with this surgery that the one I paid for he even came into the office on a Sunday to resuture her as she pulled out the staples in his swim trunks. Said ovarian tissue must of been left in to cause her to go back into heat. I was spayed in 1968 have my ovaries and have not gone into heat so explain this to me.... We now have to travel the Parkway to our vet but traveling is about the same time as the other vet but he was all stop and go traffic Glad you walked out of there I would of done the same thing
  14. Praying that your babies will soon be well. Those seizures can be scarey and we know the feeling Belle has had two but 11 months apart.
  15. Angels were watching over you Snowy and still are. Hugs and kisses to both you and your mommy Beryl
  16. Our Softee right before the toe amputation and with no biopsy or x-ray the lead vet knew it was Squamous Cell Carcinoma but had to add I am not 100% sure. Sure enough when the biopsy came back he was correct. I still say if you feel better taking your baby to the University do so it will give you peace of mind. We had to take one to OSU when she went blind and later found out that she had a TIA. When we took her to OSU and saw all the vets tend to her we felt 100% better even though some were residents/interns especially when we saw her with a dozen or so during a fire drill.
  17. Still praying from Pittsburgh and if it makes you feel better by all means get her checked by an Ortho Vet.
  18. Dogs are pack animals and only the fittest survive. If a member of the pack goes down, is sick or injured they will usually attack that dog and in the wild kill it. So if one of ours cries or acts injured we keep them apart. At night I keep the two older ones in a different room than the younger ones for safety.
  19. Hello I was raised in Wales before i came to the States - me mom was Welsh and me dad English. I have a 6 pack and three are black.
  20. Let me look for some pictures not sure if I have one with her vanilla yogurt but do have a couple with her buffet.
  21. She is very close to her racing weight when we adopted her 9 years ago. Dr. O'Leary told us that when they age they only use about 60% og their food intake and he wanted her genes. She weighs about 55 pounds. Will try and get a recent picture of her posted and she is very thin
  22. The first seizure was pretty scarey as I knew what was going on but the DH didn't until after the fact. So the second one was more scarier for him. All I did with the first one after he got her out of the closet was get a towel to put under the mouth foir the mucus and when It was over told him she had a seizure.
  23. Yes she is 14 and her sire was Oshkosh Racey and there are days you would not know she is 14 plus. She eats like a horse and many a day eats 5 cups of dry food along with what ever she can beg off of us. We use dry, a heaping tablespoon of canned and a dash of water. Mix all that up and top with a tablespoon of vanilla yogurt. Heaven forbid if you use plain.
  24. Her first seizure the young vet had her on pheno for two weeks and then wanted to take her off cold turkey and I said no he then had her on 325 2/day for two weeks but that was almost 1 year ago. Yes I know they are grand mal seizures I had a son take one on my lap they are scarey I also had a son that had petit mal seizures.
