  1. Grace has a bit of a "waddle" that I notice when she is trotting....kind just swings ever so slightly. This is post attack, so for Grace it might be related to her injury. I never thought twice about it as it just seems to be kind of loose skin on her. Vet was not worried either.
  2. Fenway goes to the vet today for his annual check up and his three year shots. He's growing up! My list of things to ask the vet: ~run bloodwork as a baseline ~heartworm test (no hearworm in WA, but he lived in KS as a puppy so it's time to check) ~stinky breath! what to do? He's already on a digestive enzyme and has perfectly clean teeth ~anal gland check! I had his expressed about 2 months ago so this check will let me know how frequently I might need to get that done. ~any suggestions to get his weight up (if the vet thinks he needs it) ~approval for him to start running with me now that he's nearly 18 months old ~check his ears, Grace cleans them daily but I don't know if that's affection/habit or if we have a problem I regularly worm since my dogs are around a lot of other dogs on a daily basis, so I'm going to skip the fecal sample. He's already had a tick panel and has a very low titer for Babesia that we'll keep an eye on. Anything else I should ask the vet about? Fenway is 17 months old and was born on a farm in Kansas before going to foster in Indiana and then moving in with me. He's taller than Grace but still pretty skinny, they weigh about the same. He looks all beat up because he wrestles with his buddies like a lab, so he almost always has a scab or two. We work constantly on getting poo harder, and are now adding turkey necks to the "meal plan". We've tried several different foods with no better results, mostly worse results. He has a good energy level and I have no cause for concern with anything else. This is just my big opportunity to ask questions!
  3. You too, huh? I'm going to propose a frequent buyer punch card next time I'm at the vet. That would be Wednesday! I love my vet, but I don't want to see him for a long, long time. Luckily this week's visit is for big boy shots for Fenway....and then I'm going to restart the count down. I think the longest I've gone between visits since I added #2 a year ago was about 2 months. Come on kids, lets see if we can make it three months this time! Sweetpea, I hope your rash goes away soon and that you don't have to go to the vet.
  4. Fenway had a rash like that last summer and it turned out to be a staph infection. Meds from the vet cleared it right up. I'd try the cleaning first, and give it 7-10 days or so....if it doesn't get better, or if it gets worse, head on over to the vet. Is she licking that area at all?
  5. And I've since moved to West Seattle myself, so no more Belltown park for us either. We do go to Westcrest over here in West Seattle though, it's big and has a nice loop trail for walking/zooming. Let me know if you are ever in the area and we'll meet you there!
  6. Hello there! I'm not sure if you'll remember but we met you at the Belltown dog park at least a year ago. I have Grace, the lovely brindle who was probably more interested in getting pets or food from the people at the dog park. I remember you getting Razzle Dazzle to help with little Mo's mobility. Glad to see you here! Oh, and we know Peanut too....she's just a doll!
  7. Oh my, what a moving tribute to a special soul. I'm so sorry for your loss, and I'm so glad Tara Sue is pain free now.
  8. That photo of your girl roaching is adorable. Welcome!
  9. I bought this same one about a month ago on amazon. The batteries don't even last through one nail session, it worked fine if the batteries would have worked long enough for me to finish. The high setting worked fairly well. I am going to opt for something that does not run on normal batteries, because it just isn't worth it. I think it would be fine for smaller dogs who nails may not be as big....... Ditto that...I just tossed this one and purcased a multi speed dremel with a cord at Target. I'll try it with the cord, if that doesn't work for me then I'll exchange it for the cordless one that was out of stock.
  10. Ouch! You can try the antibiotic ointment, it won't hurt him at all if he ingests it. Grace licks her wounds, Fenway leaves his alone. Maybe Spud would leave his alone??? I also try to put that stuff on when they are sleepy and are about to nap for at least a few hours. If you are worried about infection you might see if your vet will give some oral antibiotics, just in case. I always get extras from the vets now as they trust my judgement on when their wounds need attention and when they don't. Might be worth a call. I'm sure if you keep it clean he'll be alright though. Feel better soon!

    Otis

Oh no. I'm so sorry to read this. How shocking! God speed Otis!
  12. I hope Tara Sue has a wonderful ice cream day today! Take photos and make memories. We'll be thinking of you!
  13. Poor Todd, I hope it heals up quickly!
  14. Thanks for your feedback everyone. I'm trying her on Resources Canine Incontinence Support supplements. The main ingredients are wild yam root, bee pollen, rehmannia, angelica sinensis, psoralea, glandalai, and licorice. Today is day one on the supplements...I'll let you know how it's going.
  15. My girl had the runs on Nutro too. Might be that food does not agree with her. It could also be stress related, everything is so new to him.
  16. Thank goodness he's doing well! I'm so happy to hear he already has his drains out and his tail is healing well. Give him kisses from us!
  17. Wishing you many happy memories of a truly wonderful friend. I hope you have the chance to make a few more before she goes to run free with all our other bridge kids. Tell her to say hi to Freckles for me.
  18. Yep, Fenway had a staph infection last year and one round of Simplicef took care of it. Not a problem.
  19. Let us know how it goes with the vet, Nat! I had Grace to the vet this AM. Did a urine draw directly from her bladder. No UTI. The culture will be back in a few days. Knowing Grace, I'm 99.9% sure it's spay incontinence and not a UTI. I got a message from the vet this afternoon to talk about options, but he's off now so I'll call tomorrow morning. He mentioned Proin and DES in the message. I'll let you know what I decide. Grace has recently been on antibiotics, I'll have to check her paperwork to see which two. Would those have killed any bacteria from a UTI, or is there a specific med for a UTI?? I'm thinking if she was on the antibiotics already for her wounds and nothing changed, there is no reason to try MORE antibiotics. I'll talk to the vet tomorrow as well.
  20. Oh poor Bill. Sending him good thoughts for a speedy recovery.
  21. Oh no, I'm so sorry to read this! That is so sad. Thanks for the link!
  22. Huh, interesting. Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it. So when Bailey was having accidents with the low grade UTI was she having them on her bedding and while sleeping? The only reason I'm NOT thinking UTI is because it's while sleeping....but if others have seen UTI related accidents while sleeping then maybe it's not a tell-tale sign.
  23. It's time to put Grace on incontinence meds. It's been a rough start to the year! Talk to me about incontinence meds and the options I have. I've seen references to all natural and herbal supplements as well as different meds that can be used. DES (estrogen), Proin, sinus tablets, Resources Canine Incontinence Support, etc. I don't know where to start. I've taken urine samples in before and everything has come back okay, with the exception of an elevated bilirubin level of 2+ . I'll take another sample in to see if the bilirubin is the same. In the last few weeks she's had maybe 5-6 accidents, all when she's been napping. Some have been small, the size of my hand....while one or two have been much larger. The spots are always clear and odor-free. Always while I'm home, always on the bedding, never while standing up. Tell me my options, what would you do? (I'd tend to go more the route of staring something slow....and increasing the dosage if the problems continues. ie. if we go with Proin, start with one tablet 3x/week, and increase up to the regular dosage of 2x/day if needed)
