  1. I think we should let FEMA organize and run it... We can buy the gifts, send it to them, they can figure out who gets what and when, issue them a debit card, take it back, then issue them a number and then change that a few times as well. :lol

  2. So I was wondering how do I come across a board certified orthopedic surgeon? I saw that there is a list going of veterinarians that grey people recommend, but there's nothing listed so far in Virginia. Searching the Internet is exhausting... Charlie sees the second opinion vet on Thursday, the soonest they could get him in.

Charlie slipped out into the backyard today when I let my other two out, and ran circles around me for 15 minutes.  :o  Wasn't limping at all, until he finally stopped and I was able to get him inside. He wasn't limping that badly though. There really is no keeping that dog down... I wonder if he needs a sedative? I've felt so bad for him since all this started, because he looks like he wants to run and play so bad!  :unsure

Gretchen... Check at the VRCC (Virginia Referral and Critical Care) here in Richmond.. They have performed surgery on other dogs of ours with success. The surgeons there are highly recommended.

  3. Hi everybody, I'm new here. I'm the one whose grey (Charlie) supposedly tore his ACL... I say supposedly because now I'm not convinced that he did. The day before and the day of his vet visit, he wasn't putting any weight on it at all, but he did still have enough energy that I was worried he'd hurt himself further. The vet laid him down on a blanket and felt both of his back legs. He cried out when she touched his right knee. She didn't tell me whether it was a full or partial tear, and I didn't think to ask... She prescribed Deramaxx for pain and rest for a week while I decided what to do. She said if it were her dog, she'd probably choose surgery. But the next day, Charlie was only limping off and on, and ever since then, he's been walking on all fours, except he is definitely a little stiff. I've kept our leash walks short, but he's an excitable, happy dog, so it's hard to keep him down.  :colgate  I have a crate in my bedroom, and I leave its door open all the time. Charlie's the only one of my three dogs who goes in there, but it's never very often. He'll only go in on his own; if I ever prod him, he gets upset. So I don't think I could crate him.

I have an appointment with another vet for a second opinion. I was also told I should take him to an orthopedic surgeon for an opinion. Does anybody have any other ideas on what it could be, or what to do for him? You've all been really helpful already. It made me feel better to see that others have gone through it and that everything came out OK!

Hi Gretchen... Glad to see you posted about Charlie. He is the one I started this thread about so hopefully you can get some good information here.. I agree wtih the second opinion for him. Never know.... I spoke with someone who didn't need surgery and only used rehab.. I am waiting to hear back from her as well.. Talk with you later..

  4. OMG.... I am so sorry to hear this... I had the pleasure of meeting everyone this past September in Richmond and then again at Dewey... Winston was a wonderful dog and will be missed... Rich and Kathy, our thoughts and prayers are with you....

  5. I will give a little background about Autumn.. She was living under a deck at some townhouses and had to be trapped. She also had 3 kittens as well. Alex and his mom took them in, working with them so the kittens could be adopted. Autumn had been abused at some point and had one eye that wouldn't open all the way and her teeth were kind of out of place.. A real sweet girl though but she couldn't live inside all the time like all of our other kitties.. She had to go in and out... I tell Alex he gave her a wonderful life while she was with him.

Run free little girl.. You now can be free to roam the fields and play outside all you want..

  6. I am so sorry to hear about Chico, but am glad you were there to help him along the way. Its so much nicer to be there for them and to help them on their journey...

  7. The Rescuers...

Unlike most days at Rainbow Bridge, this day dawned cold and gray,

damp as a swamp and as dismal as could be imagined. All of the recent

arrivals had no idea what to think, as they had never experienced a

    day like this before.

But the animals who had been waiting for their beloved people knew

exactly what was going on and started to gather at the pathway

leading to The Bridge to watch.

It wasn't long before an elderly animal came into view, head hung

low and tail dragging. The other animals, the ones who had been there for

a while, knew what his story was right away, for they had seen this

    happen far too often.

He approached slowly, obviously in great emotional pain, but with

no sign of injury or illness. Unlike all of the other animals waiting at

The Bridge, this animal had not been restored to youth and made healthy

and vigorous again. As he walked toward The Bridge, he watched all of

the other animals watching him. He knew he was out of place here and

the sooner he could cross over, the happier he would be.

But, alas, as he approached The Bridge, his way was barred by the

appearance of an Angel who apologized, but told him that he would not

be able to pass. Only those animals who were with their people could

    pass over Rainbow Bridge.

With no place else to turn to, the elderly animal turned towards

the fields before The Bridge and saw a group of other animals like

himself, also elderly and infirm. They weren't playing, but rather simply

lying on the green grass, forlornly staring out at the pathway leading to

The Bridge. And so, he took his place among them, watching the pathway

    and waiting.

One of the newest arrivals at The Bridge didn't understand what he

had just witnessed and asked one of the animals that had been there

for a while to explain it to him.

"You see, that poor animal was a rescue. He was turned in to rescue

just as you see him now, an older animal with his fur graying and his

eyes clouding. He never made it out of rescue and passed on with only

the love of his rescuer to comfort him as he left his earthly existence.

Because he had no family to give his love to, he has no one to escort

    him across The Bridge. "

The first animal thought about this for a minute and then

asked, "So what will happen now?"

As he was about to receive his answer, the clouds suddenly parted

    and the gloom lifted.

Approaching The Bridge could be seen a single Person and among the

older animals, a whole group was suddenly bathed in a golden light

and they were all young and healthy again, just as they were in the prime

    of life.

"Watch, and see" said the second animal.

A second group of animals from those waiting came to the pathway

and bowed low as the person neared. At each bowed head, the person

offered a pat on the head or a scratch behind the ears. The newly restored

animals fell into line and followed him towards The Bridge. They all

    crossed The Bridge together.

    "What happened?"

"That was arescuer. The animals you saw bowing in respect were

those who found new homes because of His work. They will cross when their

new families arrive. Those you saw restored were those who never found

homes. When a rescuer arrives, they are allowed to perform one, final

act of rescue. They are allowed to escort those poor animals that they

couldn't place on earth, across The Rainbow Bridge. "

"I think I like rescuers", said the first animal.

"So does GOD", was the reply.

When Dogs go to heaven, They don't need wings because God knows that dogs love running best...

He Gives them fields. Fields and fields and fields.

When a dog first arrives in Heaven, he just runs.

Dog Heaven has clear, wide lakes, filled with geese who honk and flap and tease. The dogs love this. They run beside the water and bark and bark and God watches them from behind a tree and smiles..

There are children of course. Angel Children.

God knows that dogs love children more than anything else in the world, so He fills Dog Heaven with plenty of them. T here are children on Bikes and children on Sleds. There are children throwing red rubber balls and children pulling kites through the clouds. The dogs are there, and the children love them dearly.

And. oh, the dog biscuits. Biscuits and biscuits as far as the eye can see.

God has a sense of humor, so he makes His biscuits in funny shapes for His dogs. There are kitty-cat biscuits and squirrel biscuits. Ice Cream biscuits and ham-sandwich bisquits.

Every angel who passes by has a biscuit for a dog. And of course, all God's dogs sit when angels say "Sit". Every dog becomes a good dog in Heaven.

God turns clouds inside out to make fluffy beds for the dogs in Dog Heaven, and when they are tired from running and barking and eating ham-sandwich biscuits, the dogs each find a cloud for sleeping. They turn around and around in the cloud... until it feels just right, and then they curl up.. and they sleep. God watches over each one of them and there are no bad dreams.

Dogs in Dog Heaven have almost alwsy belonged to somebody on Earth and. of course the dogs remember this. Heaven is full of memories. So sometimes an angel will walk a dog back to Earth for a little visit and quietly, invisibly, the dog will sniff about his old backyard, will investigate the cat next door, will follow the child to school, will sit on the front portch and wait for the mail. When he is satisfied that all is well, the dog will return to Heaven with the angel. It is where dogs belong, near God who made them.

The dogs in Dog Heaven who had no real homes on Earth are given one in HEaven. The homes have yards and porches and there are couches to lie on and table to sit under while angels eat their dinners. Ther are special bowls with the dog's names on them. And esch dog is petted and reminded how good he is, all day long.

Dogs in Dog Heaven may stay as long as they like and this can mean forever. They will be there when old friends show up. They will be there at the door..

    Angel Dogs..
