I’m so sorry for your loss of Lila. She will be missed here on GT. Your tribute is beautiful.

Jan, I’m so sorry. I’m just reading this now. Thank you for sharing this special guy with us. I’m tearing up because this is both heartbreaking but also heartwarming knowing his last year and a half we’re filled with nothing but love.
I may never look at chikkens the same way again.
Take care sweet Jan...I know it never gets any easier.

Congratulations to all

Glad to hear it’s not OS, but hoping you continue to keep his pain under control.

The most loving thing we can do is ease their pain. It’s like transferring their pain into your heart. Time doesn’t heal the pain, it just let’s you get used to life without them. To me grief is like a terrible storm. Some days it feels like a tsunami while other days you can go with the flow and survive the waves.

Looks like everyone had a great time! You sure can tell those guys were athletes, look at those muscles!

As always GT is the best for advice, help and friendship. Thank you so much to greytpups and fiveRooooers for all your guidance and PMs. Phog has fought Corns since we got him - we have tried everything - and I mean everything. I have been researching and following flexor tenotomy surgery since we first heard about it (on GT, I’m pretty sure)... Wednesday he is having the surgery. Believed to be the first in KC. thanking all here for thoughts and prayers in advance.
Wishing Phog all the best possible results.
Our vet has shown a lot of interest in learning this surgery and is going to contact the vet who performed the surgery on Emmy. She continues to do well and we’re still pleased with our decision.

Thank you...me too
I started watching and waiting for her in May 2009, so she was on the original thread.

Not many of them left
We still have Katie (Crazykatiebug) and our claim to fame is that I waited for her for 51 months. Thankfully, she is still happy and healthy at 13 yrs and 10.6 months.

Emmy is doing amazingly well. she went from not putting any weight on her paw to a slight limp right after surgery.

Good luck! My vet has done several of these and the results have been nothing short of miraculous. Let us know how Emmy is
Emmy had the surgery and is doing really well. Prior to the surgery she couldn’t put any weight on her paw, but now, 2 days later, just a a very slight limp which I expect will go away once she’s fully healed.

We are going the flexor tenotomy route. There are only 2 vets here in Ontario and luckily, one is about 1/2 hour from us.
We based our decision on a few factors 1) Emmy is limping a lot, she’s obviously in a lot of pain 2) we’ve had it hulled by our vet and it grew back very quickly both times 3) if we don’t get rid of the source, it will always bother her 4) she’s only Nine 5) the vet is close by and knows a lot about Dr. Guilliard and has great success with previous tendonectomies.
I will let you know how it goes. It’s not cheap here, but I hate seeing Emmy in pain. Hope you find a solution that works. -
Happy Gotcha day girls.

Hi Nadine. I’m so sorry to hear about your cancer diagnosis and loss of Andy. Abu is very handsome and I’m glad to see another Irish greyhound found a great home.
on another note - your English is great.

Introducing a new pee area

It seems you have 2 problems.
I would take her to a corner or somewhere away from the other owners. When the dogs come running over I would hold them by their collar and ask their owner to keep them away because they are annoying your dog who clearly doesn’t like their behaviour.
however, if they are sniffing each other in a social way, I.e. sniffing from the side, not meeting face-to-face, and NOT jumping up, your girl may like interacting with them. If she’s turning her head away, licking her lips, tongue flicks, etc. she’s clearly uncomfortable with their behaviour. If a dog jumps up on mine, I immediately hold the dog down, I never let them jump on my dog. I have no problem telling the owner that jumping up is an aggressive behaviour in the dog world and I’m sure they wouldn’t want my dog to jump on their dog.
As soon as your girl pees immediately reward her. I always say “good girl/boy” so my pups know a reward is coming right away. Sometimes it’s a treat, sometimes it’s praise (intermittent reinforcement works well). If she’s not food motivated, you may need to find a really high value treat. I find this works for me. Then I would take her in once she’s finished her business, so she knows she needs to go out so she can come right back in to eat (assuming it’s dinner time. Then try taking her on a walk later to work on the freezing posture.
Hope this is helpful.
