Have any of you fed your dogs' Nutrisca dog food?

My dogs absolutely hated it. I tried to feed it to Riddick when I got him, but he wouldn't touch it no matter what I put on it. I then tried to feed it to the other 10 dogs (including fosters) at the time and NOT one would eat it and several are complete garbage disposals. I even added canned Tripett to it and they wouldn't touch it, tried mixing with the other kibble and they picked it out and spit it on the floor. So when that many dogs say NO, I didn't push the matter.

I ended up feeding it to my neighbors dog who normally eats Ol Roy and he didn't seem to mind it. We tried the chicken and lamb formulas. They have a fish one out now, but I haven't tried it.

I switched Twiggy to Nutrisca from GO! Natural about 3 months ago. The switch went very well, she loves it and even eats it for the few days after chemo that she isn't feeling much like eating (but she is a food monster...), and she has really good firm poop and NO gas! Also it actually smells like food, unlike most other kibbles.

So, it gets a big thumbs up from us.

Very few places carry this food, so if your store runs out, you may be hard pressed to find it somewhere else, but that is probably my biggest caveat it.

The reason I switched from the GO is because of Twiggy's cancer. "They" say that cancer feeds on carbs, and her onco recommended that I switch her to a low carb/low glycemic index food - this fits the bill.

Her oncologist feels that low glycemic index is more important than low carb. What that means is that another kibble might be lower in total carbs, but use tapioca (extremely high glycemic index) as its primary carb source. This food has a bit higher total carbs, but peas and chickpeas are much lower glycemic index.

I used to do part raw, and wouldn't be opposed to going totally raw, but any amount of raw is a no-no while on chemo (per her oncologist), due to their lowered immune systems.

This was probably more than you ever wanted to know about Nutrisca (or carb sources), sorry!

Have not heard of this food before nor seen it in our stores. Just have a comment on on use of peas as the carb/fiber source. We've had a couple treats that are pea based, (Forget which ones.) Venus wasn't too taken with them but Soleil adored them. Just got some allergy formula Pill Pockets as opposed to the normal formula. Venus adored any flavor of Pill Pocket until these. She says Yuck!

Perhaps peas are a polarizing ingredient as far as houndie palates are concerned?

According to my Vet, the preservative free foods can go rancid fairly quickly. If everyone turned their noses up at it, that was likely the case.

I get the canned Nutrisca at my local grocery store and my kids love it.

It was fresh, the store got the shipment that day and I bought a bag of each flavor. They have since refused samples at an event we went too when the vendor for the food wouldn't believe they wouldn't eat. She tried, they but they all snubbed it. But ate the other samples of Fromm and Evo. They also refused Natural Balance Alpha also made with chick peas. I think they just don't like chick peas.

I got samples (salmon and lamb) a few months ago and all three of mine wolfed down the samples. I was going to switch them from TOTW Pacific Stream, but then got laid off at work. So I ended up having to switch from TOTW to the Costco equivalent, Nature's Domain, due to the price.

When I get re-employed I may give it a try. All three of my dogs LOVE peas. They will beg for them when I eat them.
