Norm Is Pooping In His Crate

Thursday morning Dot and I passed by maybe 30 minutes. So Norm was in his crate about 30 minutes. Dot came home to poop.

 

Today we had to run errands. He was crated for about 4 hours. Came home to poop.

 

We've never had a poop problem before. He was crated all day while we were at work. Now Dot and I work opposite shifts and one of us is usually home, so no crating.

 

Nerves? Angry because he's crated? Age?

 

Thoughts???

What about worms. I would rule out the possibility that it's medical (i.e., worms) first.

But no accidents in the house? Wouldn't there be accidents in the house also?

Hunh. A thought. This morning Norm found my coffee cup while I wasn't watching. So instead of water in his breakfast I gave him the rest of it. I know what coffee does to me. Could it have the same effect on him? That would explain today. Thursday may have just been an off day.

The caffeine is a stimulant - so it could very well have the same effect on Norm.

 

Twice in a week seems like too much to instantly rule out something medical. Rocket will hold it for hours and hours if crated, and even when loose in the house. If Norm is usually good about going out, I think I would have a fecal test run just to rule out worms or other nasties (but I am also paranoid that way). Our vet will test a sample without having to make an appointment, and i'm assuming that most vets will ldo that.

 

Hope Norm is feeling better soon. I love the name Norm for a greyhound....

Is it formed poop, soft serve, or big-D?

Has he been having any back-end weakness, shakiness, falling sideways when he pees? Any chance he could have lumbosacral stenosis? In that and some other conditions, they lose a degree of sensation, so poop comes when it comes.

Whatever is behind it, the coffee probably didn't help. But I doubt it was for spite.

Totally formed and yes his back legs are starting to get wobbly. But hes not losing balance. Just wobbles a bit.

 

I think Thursday was a fluke. He's no longer used to kenneling in the morning. DP usually comes home, feeds, let's them out and goes to sleep. Thursday was a cookie and kennel so I'm going with he was **? and his tummy thought cookie meant breakfast and after breakfast meant poop.

 

As for yesterday, he pooped several more times outside. Much more then normal. I'm blaming the coffee.

 

 

Now if we can get Honey to stop peeing in the house....
