o_rooly
I saw mention of nasal mites in another thread (THANK YOU, 3greytjoys, for bringing it up!). Mites sound like a possible cause for Aston's reverse sneezing, constant nose-drip, itching (that isn't resolved by Benadryl) and coughing/gagging fits. Our vet hasn't had a diagnosis for these symptoms otherwise, aside from perhaps a respiratory infection, but there was no improvement with antibiotics. Anyone else have experience with these? were your dog's symptoms along the same lines? I'm putting this on my list of Qs for the vet during Aston's checkup next month. Thanks! macoduck
I was curious too. Some sites same treat with oral ivermectin, others suggest a different med. This site http://www.publichealth.lacounty.gov/vet/docs/NasalMitesCanine.pdf shows photos of mites during a scope. Ick factor!!! 3greytjoys
Below is a link to the outstanding on-line source that helped me diagnose our hound with nasal mites. I entered her top symptoms in the search box and voila... I had my diagnosis and treatment. We did the Ivermectin treatments. First one at the new vet's office, and I did all following treatments at home -- easy, easy, easy!! This, after my girl went through many months (and maybe previous years) of suffering!! http://www.merckvetmanual.com/mvm/index.jsp?cfile=htm/bc/121603.htm&word=nasal%2cmites ETA: My girl had some daily reverse sneezing, clear runny nose, major lack of interest in food (she couldn't smell food well enough to become interested in eating). I don't recall noticing much blood, but that could point to nasal mites also. Although, it's possible for nasal mites to spread, fortunately, our other hounds never showed any symptoms of nasal mites.
