kudzu
We will be heading to the vet for this but thought I would ask GT for ideas/input. Anyone have any experience with a dog who had mild ongoing folliculitis? Our new guy has has occasional mild folliculits. The spots are usually sparse, distributed on his chest, arm pits, belly & inner thighs. Bathing every two weeks helps. Wondered about a food allergy or sensitivity. Tried a switch to chicken as only protein. Holy moly! Skin broke out in scabby, scaly spots everywhere unlike the prior limited folliculitis, Ok so I work to eliminate chicken. Skin lesions quickly resolve with the exception of one between his shoulder blades & one on neck. Between him scratching & other nurse maid dog licking those spots it's taken weeks to get them resolved. Now the chicken is gone (except one dog eats a turkey/chicken based food; am attempting to switch Miss Picky) BUT the folliculits remains. Thankfully it is back to it's prior level. Will talk to vet before trying chicken again to make sure it wasn't coincidence. Do you think we have folliculitis from a food allergy? Could the presence of chicken, just kibble dust or an occasional cumb from the other dog's food be enough to keep a low level irritation going? Am wondering if there may be an addl cause. Walliered
Both of my dogs cannot tolerate chicken or beef. I feed TOTW Pacific Stream and for treats I use Dick Van Patton's Bison and Sweet Potato dog biscuts. I never give them anything else and we are good to go.
