Guest SuperiorItaly
Any of your hounds pace when they're nervous? It's been really, really windy here the last couple of days. Normally Italy will sleep all day but she's been pacing all day. She'll go lay in the bathroom for a while when she gets scared but then she'll walk laps around the living room. She'll pass her bed and her favorite loveseat and then be back :20 later doing the same thing. We're getting ready to go to bed so I gave her a melatonin so she can relax but she just keeps walking around.
Guest greyt_learner
Puck used to pace during thunderstorms and fire works. We just let him do it until he found a place he would lie for a few minutes, then he'd be off again. Strangely enough, when we went to bed and turned the lights off, he'd always settle down no problem.
Batmom
Zema would pace when nervous. Remedy here was to make her lie down in one of her safe spots and cover her up with a blankie. TheFullHouse
Bebe paces when we're about to have a thunderstorm. I just let her pace until she finds a place where she feels safe and then she usually settles down. Trying to stop her is useless. HeidisMum
Heidi paces if it thunders, the wind is blowing, or if she thinks it might be raining within a 50 mile radius. She's very sensitive to weather changes. We've tried many things to calm her down and nothing has really worked. Sometimes she will calm down if DH puts her on his lap in the recliner, but usually we end up just having to ignore her. Last night it was sprinkling, so she paced most of the night. Earplugs can be your friend at night.
