cacky
The wife did a great job after we got black head, fixed his butt, polished his coat just a super handsome fella now. When he came home his eyes were brutal, we didn't know if it was pollen or what. she started him on benadry just one in his dinner, cleared up the eyes in about three weeks, but now he paws at his nose. Is this more pollen or is the benadryl drying out his nose ? is there a sub for benadryl this group would suggest thanx
Guest KennelMom
Benadryl is just going to relieve some symptoms - not resolve any underlying condition. Is he still on the benadryl? Perhaps he has an allergy to something other than pollen. Not sure where you are, but we're past the height of pollen season here.

He's been on Benadryl since the second week we got him, it's the only thing that seems to keep his eyes clean. And we're just outside of Boston so with the rain and now the heat that will kick the pollen back up right.
tbhounds
Dry nose?? How are the tips of the ears?? Perhaps a trip to a derm vet is in order. Benedryl will help him feel better but, what if it's not allergies? For example dry nose sometimes could be lupus. In the meantime you might want to try chlortrimeton instead of the Benedryl. Guest ChasesMum
reactine is a better antihistamine than benadryl... dosage for Chase (60 lbs) was 20mg once a day. (but I am not a vet!)
silverfish
It sounds as though he does have an allergy problem if the benadryl helped so much with his eyes, so either you need a different antihistamine, or the nose is a different problem, or it's even more complicated than that. If it's gone on this long and is no different, personally, I think it's time for a trip to the vet. He could have mites up his nose, he could have a foreign body up there, or growths, or he could have some kind of systemic problem (like discoid lupus, just to pluck something out of the air) which the benedryl is masking some of the symptoms of, but not all. Guest KennelMom
I agree with the above...time for a trip to the vet.
