Guest madredhare
Well it has been a long day, but we got Sadie home. The docs at Metropolitan Veterinary Specialists fixed her up, hopefully. Had to got through some medical testing first. Sadie needed an echo cardiogram, which shows her heart function is not where it was in January. We are waiting for the digoxin levels to come back to see if we need to up her dose or add an additional medicine to her daily meds. After examination, they decided there was good blood flow to the toe and it was actually healed up and felt like amputation was a bit extreme. To try to get rid of the problem between the toes they were going to do a procedure where they suture the toes together. I am on brain overload, so I can't even begin to remember the term. But then because of the issues with the heart, they weren't able to put her under anesthesia for very long. So they went back in and cleaned out the wound really good, shaved the hair off and put her in a splint so the toes wouldn't spread out and hopefully the stitches will heal. So we are going to be really good friends with our vet. We will be going back in for very frequent bandage changes. My poor girl is exhausted. Can hardly stand up. She is still groggy so she can't quite figure out how to make the leg work with the splint on. Hopefully tomorrow will be better. Oh and the best part, leash walking for the next 6-8 weeks and no stairs. This is going to be very interesting. I am very thankful that she got to come home tonight and didn't have to stay there overnight. She is much more comfortable on her couch.
