Jamey Bone Biopsy Update

Recommended Posts

Jamey had his bone biopsy late this afternoon. He is still at the 24 hr critical care hospital, and will stay there overnight, seeing that he was put under general anaesthetic for rhe biopsy.

We did speak to the surgeon who said they made a small incision, separated the muscles, and were able to see the bone in order to do the biopsy. He describes Jamey's bone as "egg shell thin". This is a dramatic change from what we saw and heard a couple of weeks ago, that his bone was so hard that they could not get a needle in it to do a proper fine needle aspirate. The interior was described as red-blue "mush". It has been sent for cytology, which will take 3-5 days, we were told last week. Dr. S did say that there is a kind of bone cyst that occurs normally in the mandible called a "ridiculous cyst?" if I remember correctly that presents something like what he saw in Jamey's bone, except that it can be "scooped out". When he tried this with Jamey's bone it did all not scoop out.

We asked point blank if he thought it was OSA from having seen it, and he said that it is not in the "normal" place for OSA to be seen, but that Jamey could be one of those cases in which it is in a different place. He did not want to commit to an answer of OSA, but he does think it could be.

So we have to wait.....but Jamey is in good hands for the night.

Jamey came home yesterday at noon, and rested comfortably for the rest of the day. He is not in much pain, but he is on pain killers. He has to do everything on leash, he is not allowed to run or jump. We should hear results on Friday or Monday. We have a tentative appointment to get his leg amputated for Monday or Tuesday, depending on the biopsy results, and his latest lung X-rays. It will be a long wait for us.

SEnding prayers.

Thank you. I noticed that Alan was a Yopon dog. Believe it or not, Jamey is too. His name is King James, but he was bought by someone from the original owner. Jamey's siblings are : Yopon Ben, Bert, Bill, and Bob. They may be related, somehow?

Just an observation.

I just looked them both up. Alan's father is Jamey's grandfather. Prayers for your boy. Wishing you many more happy days with Jamey. Glad he is home and resting.

We thought we would get a result by Friday (yesterday), but the vet didn't phone, so we have to wait until Monday now. They did say 3-5 working days......He does not seem to be in pain from the biopsy. He is still on 2 tramadol a day.

Jamey is doing OK, enjoying the sunshine and nice weather that we have right now. We continue to potty him on leash and he's OK with that.

Hopefully we will know SOMETHING on Monday!
