Osu Greyhound Wellness Program

Is this the same as what Hope for Hounds raises money for or are the funds different? OSU was fantastic in responding when our girl Harmony was so ill. I will make a donation directly to the program today, but for future donations I'd like to know how H4H and OSU H&W are related...in other words...do donations to H4H help the Health & Wellness program?

Yes it is Heather, but our funds cover the oncology side of things. This allows Dr Couto's team to provide treatment to greyhounds with cancer, as well as consult with vets accross North America about their cancer patients. They also provide free chemo to retired racing greyhounds.

One of the things I am doing this year is using Hope for Hounds as a platform to raise money and awareness not only about the cancer research, but everything OSU does for us greyhound owners.

I am speaking at Sandy Paws about the Greyhound Health and Wellness Program and Hope for Hounds. I just got some data from Dr Couto yesterday and Dr Marin is sending me pictures.

I'm hoping this is something I can get invited to do at other greyhound events. This program is so important, and we are very lucky to have it. I'd hate to see it compromised by lack of funding.

One of the goals of Hope for Hounds has been to give greyhound owners a presence. By donating to Hope for Hounds, all the $5.00, $15.00 and $30.00 donations add up to become one BIG cheque. Often when Dr Couto says he can get money for a project the Dean will say okay but how? Dr Couto tells him you don't know greyhound owners! Since HfH started making regular donations, we prove him right with every cheque. The last few have been sizeable too. :D Together we make a big difference.

Thank you for confirming what I thought...

When is the annual Miss Nellie auction? Seems like it's usually at the beginning of the year but you know how time flies as you get older...my months get all screwed up! :blush I have at least one donation for this years auction! That auction is always so much fun and raises a lot of money for Dr. Couto...

Thank you, Dr. Feeman, for this informational thread. I haven't had any contact with OSU and, hopefully, won't have to in the future but they are truly angels on earth for what they do for our beloved greyhounds. I'll be making a donation right away.

It's actually whenever Miss Alisha will fit us in. After last year, she might just run screaming. We had over 200 items in that auction, but the final total was just over $20,000.00

I'm planning to take a few days off after the auction this year to handle the invoicing etc. It is a huge amount of work, but so worth it.

If you get the chance to sit it out or dance.......... I hope you dance! Missing our littlest girl.

Bumping this one to the top again. I can't think of a more worthy cause than The Greyhound Health and Wellness Program at OSU. Other than receiving counseling/advice via email (within 24 hours of my initial contact!!!), my only other information about the impact that the program has had on individuals and their hounds, comes from GT. The service, support and research by Dr. Cuoto and staff is well documented here and must continue. Many of us are lacking Vets who really "get" Greyhounds and here is an entire program dedicated to our beloved breed! If you haven't already, please consider making a contribution! If you have, I thank you and the hounds thank you!

Linda, Mom to Fuzz, Barkley, and the felines Miss Kitty, Simon and Joseph.Waiting at The Bridge: Alex, Josh, Harley, Nikki, Beemer, Anna, Frank, Rachel, my heart & soul, Suze and the best boy ever, Dalton.<p>

:candle ....for all those hounds that are sick, hurt, lost or waiting for their forever homes. SENIORS ROCK :rivethead

God knows they have been there for me..... i am donating tonite! I am on a strict budget but these guys have saved my ass more than once. Is there any way GT would do a blast to members? ie- i dont visit often and just happen to be on here to look something up tonite and saw this... otherwise i would never have known. If i got an email from GT mentioning this, i would not be in the least offended... and i would like to think most people who use this site would not be- even if they could not donate at the moment. i know that may be against GT policy, and I have never been solicited by GT and i am really appreciative of GT sparing me the junk email... but a small exception may be warranted in this case. i think we owe it to Dr C - although I know some may think such a move would be in poor taste. This site has done so much for me.. and Dr C too- dont we owe it to them to do at least a one time blast email appeal so people like me that dont often keep up with current GT events may be informed and have an opportunity to donate? Hey - even if a lot of people make a small donation... that can really add up for the OSU program. I pray they stay around... god bless DR C and Dr Freeman and all the vets that put up with our hound drama!
