Robin, you and Beau are in my thoughts and prayers. It is good to hear he's holding his weight for now at least. I can only imagine how horrible this is on all of you.

Would putting the fish in a crock pot help out with daily preparation? It might help you having it constantly ready & give you extra time out of the kitchen??

Don't know if he's "allowed" to eat a whole fish.

He doesn't like it when its mushy. He likes it in whole pieces. He is a PITA when it comes to eating.

I know I should be thrilled about him not losing any more weight and I am. But this is starting to get to me.

I am having issues with my son too.

So, I am just a bit tired of the whole thing.

I'm glad to read Beau didn't lose more weight. I know you must just be out of your mind with worry and exhaustion. Sending lots of prayers for Beau and good thoughts your way.

I was thinking about possibly putting just the fillets in, not the whole fish. How about wrapping the fillets in foil & putting the crockpot on low. You could rotate them in & out as you use them. They would be constantly cooking & ready. Stand them up like when they steam tamales. I don't think they would turn to mush that way. Might be worth a try. :)

Are you ready for this one? We had been buying 100% tilapia jerky from sitstay.com. We literally bought out the store. We also bought out another store and then were told that the company that makes the treat is no longer in business. That is the only treat he is allowed to have. Figures.

So we got out the George Forman grill and made our own.

He LOOOOOOVES them. Good right, Wrong .NOw, he doesn't want the poached tilapia, he only wants the grilled tilapia which takes out all the nutrients because he likes it dried out like the jerky.

In addition to this minor issue, he might becoming intolerant to the fish now which is typical of IBD which means we would need to start from scratch. and find a new food. We won't know for sure for another several days depending on what's happening with his poop.

I can not believe this is all happening.

Grilling doesn't take out all the nutrients. Not many nutrients are terribly sensitive to heat. In any case, you were heating the fish when you were cooking the other way ..... So don't worry about that part of it.

that makes me feel somewhat better.

In the oven, I wrapper the fish in foil and the oils were in tack, it was lightly cooked.

With the indoor grill, It somes out differently and the oil drips. I can collec the oil and put it back on it that way.

He is not eating as aggressivly as he had been and that scares me. We are way too early to be having any set backs with eating. We start the imuran Monday. That takes days to weeks to start to work.

Robin, I haven't updated Spencer's thread yet about this. But I want to tell you right away that we switched to raw on Wednesday night and doubled the pred (to 20 mg twice a day). We're using prepared raw chicken (with ground bones and ground veggies). He's eating up a storm -- or as much as I'll let him -- and as of today we have log poops! They had been getting steadily firmer, starting Thursday.

I know this isn't the path you're taking. Going raw (and upping the pred) is our last-ditch effort to avoid biopsy, since several people have had good results this way, much of which I learned through PM's. We did it with the vet's blessing, and she recommended the company, a local one. He has lost 10 pounds through all this, and we had to do something different. I offer this information to be helpful. Let me know if you want to discuss it further.

Biggest of hugs. We know how exhausting this is.

Thanks Mary, but raw for an IBD dog would make him sicker. I can not make ANY changes.

Oh sorry, Robin, I didn't know that. :unsure Won't suggest any more changes but will just keep fingers and paws crossed that Beau gains weight soon.
