Long Term Antibiotic Use

Recommended Posts

My 11 year old galgo, Valor is recovering from a case of pneumonia. Valor will need to be on two antibiotics (Zeniquin and amoxicillin) for 6 weeks. I was thinking that this is going to be tough on him. His stool can be soft at times, thinking I should maybe add some acidophillus to his diet? He does take Prozyme and is starting on Oxstrin as well as Omega 3 fatty acids to support him through the recovery. Anything else I should consider to help him while on the antibiotics?

Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated. Thank You

Linda, Valor, Keeva and Bella

If you're getting mooshier poop from the antibiotics, you can also try giving half a metamucil wafer twice a day. They come in a box, with packets of two wafers each. Nice flavors like cinnamon -- my dogs think they are candy. I usually just crumble it up and put it in the pup's meal. Often helps firm things a little without adding further drugs to the system.

Hugs and best luck to your pupper!
