Hole In Pad On Rear Foot.

Recommended Posts

Gizzy has licked a hole in the large pad of her rear foot. There is no blood, just a clean hole about the size of 1 1/2 pencil tip erasers. The underlying tissue is pink and healthy and clean looking. She is very sensitive about the area, and I had to muzzle her in order to clean it. I cleaned with Chlorahexadine, and applied antibiotic cream and covered with a baby sock. I will give her some Tramadol for the pain. Anything else I need to do? I don't think that this warrents a vet visit just yet as the wound is clean and has no sign of infection. There is nothing to stitch - just a hole. Any advice?

Do you know if she had a corn in that area? It's possible it came out or was loose and she pulled it out(would look like a circular or oval shaped crater). If that's the case, it probably feels a lot better.

The area should thicken and harden quickly (within a week the hole should have lost most of its definition), if it's still looking raw and bothering her in a few days, you should probably take her in to have it looked at (sooner if it looks infected)
