Guest WYOwhy
Salvador, first dog of my own, always a dignified gentleman, my sweet love, It was four years ago today when you left me for the bridge. Four years ago today, when you just gave up. I still miss you my darling boy. I'm sorry I was mad at you for giving up before I was ready to let you go. I'm sorry I never got to stroke your head one last time or rub that sweet spot between your ears. I'm sorry your ashes are still on a shelf in my cupboard and your bed is still in my garage because I just can't quite let them go. But I'm not sorry for giving you this piece of my heart. I still can see you running laps in our yard for the sheer pleasure of running, And sometimes when Avery stops to pee on your favorite bushes or tip toes past the barking Harley I can feel you with me. Four long years, and still you can make me cry. But mostly now I smile at the sweet memories of your near perfection. Your snoopy dancing when I got home, The way you barked like a tea cup poodle, The messes you made at every thunderstorm, The way you hated any change to your routine, And the many ruined squeakers of your stuffies. Thank you for teaching me how to love a dog. Thank you for introducing me to the marvelous world of greyhounds. Thank you for loving me and letting me love you. Four years ago, my dear old man, you left me. But you are not really gone. You will always be the best image of perfect dog in a classic Salvador Dali style of surrealism. You will always be first dog of my own. And will always love you.

Greys4Us
What a sweet tribute to a hound you loved very much. (I lost my first greyhound seven years ago and still cry on the anniversary of his passing.) They really do have a special place in our hearts and they so deserve to be loved and missed.
