Dental Pain, Whimpering And Such

My lovely Ulysse has a problem. I tried and search the forums but this place is HUGE!

First I would like to give him a pain killer to see if it improves. I don't remember what my vet told me. Is aspirine ok?

He used to eat at a crazy speed. Since 3 days, he slowed down and seems to be bother on his front mouth. I checked but I cannot see anything except a little bump on the top of his palate, just behind front teeth. But I don't know if it is something natural in greyhounds and/or dogs.

Second, he has start whimpering when he wants something. He never did it before, never bark nothing. Is it the old age? He will be 8 in june.

In advance thank you for your answers and for reading me!

At 8yrs old, he's still a young guy. Have you had the vet check his teeth? If not, a trip to the vet may be in order. If you can get him into the vet right away, I wouldn't give him anything. There's nothing worse than a toothache is that's what it is. Good luck and post an update when you can.

Agree with above. Easy to diagnois and easy to treat. Please let us know what the vet says, poor baby.

BTW- 8 is NOT OLD!!!!! If you told my 9 year old Polli she was old, you'd have a force to be reckoned with! ;)

Thank you everyone. We are going to the vet this afternoon. I'll let you know.

So 8 is not old? Are they not seniors at 8?

He is grey now, but he is still jumping everywhere when excited. Sometimes, he is even more restless than when he was 4! :)

Will be anxious to hear how you make out at the vet. And I had a 3yr old who was grey and have a boy who just turned 8 and if I ever refered to him as "old" I think he would leave home!!

So we just went back from the vet.

He has sore spots on his up palate, in the back. The vet adviced me to wait several days to see if things improve. It can be something he ates, some herbs he chew on...which has chemicals on it...I think from now on he is totally forbidden to eat grass!

He also have a weird tooth on which the gum recessed a lot. He already had that when I adopted him when he was 3 yo. It could be an infection as well and it would be better to pull that tooth one of these days.

So we stay put!

Oh and he put on weight!! 75 pounds when he was 68 last may (but too skinny)... His perfect weight is 72 so we are not too far.

I cannot say I am totally relieved.

(and I will never say he is old again, or any 8yo greyhounds, promise!!)

No way! Greyhounds can live upwards to 14 years old! Your guy has lots of good years left! Glad to hear his problem is being taken care of, poor guy!

I am in Nashville, TN. My vet is a specialist of greyhounds.

We don't know yet if this is a tooth problem. It could be as well he has eaten some grass with chemicals on it (they have been spraying for mosquitoes).

Thank you for the welcome!! :)

Last news: Ulysse is doing greyt!! He went on a 24 hours total diet and didn't even ask for his food. Poor boy. He had Imodium for 48 hours. No more diarrhea, spots in his mouth are gone and he is eating at lightning fast speed again! *big sigh of relief*

And he wants to go for a walk

please mommy let's go to the park

want to go for a walk,
