Guest tuxie
We found out over the weekend that the vet believes Tuxie has a slip disk. She did tell she felt this was rare to see this in greyhounds. We knew something was wrong b/c he was favoring his left back leg, she said he is doing that b/c of the nerve that runs down his back goes to that leg. Anyway, he has been on steroids since Saturday, we are supposed to call tomorrow if there has been no improvment....there hasn't been She may want to keep him on the steroids or do an x-ray, we may know tomorrow. Has anyone has a grey with a slip disk?
Guest minzenon
A slipped disc is very common. They can put a disc out by jumping into the car or just turning the wrong way running around the yard. You need to see a chiropractor, some discs are a lot easier to get in than others - you may be able to do it yourself if you know which disc it is, other than that massaging will help plus anti-inflamatories, although if he is favouring his back leg it could also be a twisted/knotted groin muscle or quite a few other things. PM me for more info. Somewhere on GT there is a list of chiropractors near you.
Guest greybookends
I second the chiropractor. I believe it is the safest and best way to go.
Hubcitypam
Everyone knows what I am going to say. In regard to vet care for my dogs my biggest regret is/was putting Rex through the pain his AVCA vet inflicted on him in the name of adjustments. We quit gong after 4 visits because I could not stand mellow mellow Rex having to be muzzled and screaming and lashing out while the vet told me everything was fine. Maybe Rex could have taken more but I couldn't take watching his fear and pain.
Trudy
Steroids 'should' help a disk problem within 24 hours. An x-ray will not show issues with discs, you'd need an MRI to see that clearly. Worth doing an xray to see if anything with bones shows up as the issue though. Is he in pain? On any pain meds?
Cynthia
'Slipped disc' is the usual starting DX (very reasonable) before they start the expensive tests to figure out what's really going on Pred helps with pain too by the way.
