I don't have the heart to list everything that was tried but here are a few important notes: metronidazole was given and he had bad shakes afterwards; shaking maybe due to being dehydrated, but also could have been a neurological side effect of the medication. When we discontinued metronidazole he was less shaky, but he still had shivery shaking. We did vitamins and another medication for coating the digestive tract, and then Barium, which did the same thing. We made diet adjustments and were able to firm up the poop, but he was still bleeding from the behind. Our vet concurred with everyone's advice that an internal specialist was the next step, but she felt like he probably had cancer & a bleeding tumor. We chose to put Duke down and were with him when he died. Thanks to all who offered their advice and support. Our choice was one we deliberated over a great deal. here is a link to Duke's memorial.
