Our First Greyhound. It Was Fate

Hi guys. Here's the story:

Me and my girlfriend have been interested in greyhound adoption for a while now. Last week, after a lot of research and talking to the two adoption groups in our area, we decided to go for it and filled out the adoption form online. We put the adoption for mid November because we felt we wanted a bit of time for getting supplies, dog proofing etc. After we submitted the form and it was accepted, we instantly regretted having to wait over a month for our dog.

Our dream dog was an older (around 5yrs) male. We wanted a male a bit more than a female since we learned the males can be harder to find homes for. We resolved ourselves to the fact that we'd have to wait a month or more, and that the adoption group would pick our dog for us.

Last friday my girlfriend was once again looking at the adoption groups webpage and we saw this guy who was just recently given up because his owners were going through a messy divorce.

He was 5yrs old. Fully housebroken, good with kids, cats, birds everything and was well trained on stairs. (we have a 2nd floor condo). He was everything we were looking for and we instantly fell in love.

Long story short, yesterday we went to the foster home and we are now the proud owners of Shadow. (since he's all black and follows us wherever we go lol) His previous name, which he didn't know after living with his previous owners for almost 6 months was Valentino. Thank god he didn't know his name. Unless he's riding a scooter in the south of Italy barking "chow" at pedestrians, no dog should ever be named Valentino. ;)

We brought him home, and he seemed to settle in quickly. He went out to pee/poo no problem (he marked every tree and bush we passed lol) Ate, and slept through the night with no problems whatsoever.

We’re in love.

Welcome to Greytalk! Shadow is a very handsome boy!

I actually like the name Valentino...as I'm sure GT'er JillysFullHouse does as well...since her handsome black boy is named that ;)

Sometimes things work out just as they are supposed to. A couple from our group took home their 2nd choice and just love him so they are very happy. A family with 2 children picked their first choice so they couldn't say no to the kids. Their new pup is a real sweetie and follows her all around the house.
