Melatonin And Allergic Reaction?

Is it possible that a hound can have an allergic reaction to melatonin? I started Tanner on it on Tuesday night. Tonight his neck is red. Only his neck. He also had the runs tonight, but I gave him (well everybody) a piece of ox tail Tuesday night. I expect the runs was from the ox tail, but not sure about the red neck. He had bloodwork done on Tuesday (hence the treat of ox tails!) but I dont know if it was taken from the neck or arm urm....leg. And if it was taken from his neck I cant imagine that would cause the redness.

Any thoughts?

I believe it is possible to be allergic to most anything. Since the two different things were the ox tail and melatonin, do not give either of them for a few days and see if the neck redness goes away. If it does go away, then try just one of those two things, if the neck redness comes back you will have your answer.

If they drew blood from his neck it maybe bruising. Last time I check melatonin was a natural sleep aid, already found in the body, so I don't know why he would be allergic to it. Why is Tanner taking melatonin anyway?

I'll call tomorrow to ask where the blood was drawn from. The Melatonin is for his nerves. When I took him in a Tues he was so nervous it was like he was vibrating. I'm hoping the melatonin will help him to relax.

Morning! I called the vet. Blood was drawn from the neck, so most likely this is bruising from that. I'll bring him Wed if its not better by then, just to be sure he's ok for Dewey.
