Guest carolyn
The good news is after 2 months of worry, we have a diagnosis for Waggin's eye cloudyness & so far she hasn't suffered any vision loss. The bad new is it's Pannus, and her condition is auto-immune related so she'll need treatment her whole life. Has anyone else been through this? ZoomDoggy
Tipper and Marla both have pannus. They are both on maintenance doses of Neo-Poly-Dex ointment. Caught early, it's very easily managed. Waggin' will be just fine! Quote ~Aimee, with Flower, Alan, Queenie, & Spodee Odee! And forever in my heart: Tipper, Sissy, Chancy, Marla, Dazzle, Alimony, and Boo. This list is too damned long. Burpdog
Yes. It's easy to control and always good to have an eye specialist diagnosis Quote Diane & The Senior Gang Burpdog Biscuits
Chicocat
The bad new is it's Pannus, and her condition is auto-immune related so she'll need treatment her whole life. The GOOD NEWS is that Pannus is easily treated and controlled. The medication is not very expensive. My boy Chico was diagnosed with Pannus when he was about 4 1/2 and at 14 his eyes were still in wonderful shape with meds. Quote Ann
Guest tampagreymom
I know it can sound scary but it is easily controllable as long as you do the eyedrops the rest of their life. My 6 year-old girlie has Pannus in both eyes and gets Prednisolone and Cyclosporine drops every day. I was intimidated at first but there are many others on Greytalk that have Pannus dogs. Guest carolyn
I am doing a BIG sigh of relief. Thanks, y'all. Our opthamologist suggested we get Waggin doggles (UV rays can make this condition worse, apparetly.) Do any of you use doggles? I don't like idea of dressing up my dog, but if she needs them I'll get them.
ZoomDoggy
I don't use Doggles. My hounds are not outside very much, and my vet ophthalmologist is confident that Tip and Marla's eyes are well controlled. Quote ~Aimee, with Flower, Alan, Queenie, & Spodee Odee! Guest carolyn
We're outside for walks and potty breaks only. And I typically walk her early in the morning (6 am) late in the evening (dusk). Maybe she'd be ok without doggles.
Guest tampagreymom
Here is my Jade in her Doggles I live in Florida so am more concerned about the UV rays making her Pannus worse. I also try to walk her more in the shade and do the longer walks in the mornings and evenings. Also the opthalmologist said when it is windy, shorten the walks to prevent any dust getting in her eyes.
Guest KennelMom
Caesar has pannus, which we've managed for several years quite easily with eye drops. We don't use doggles here, but Caesar really doesn't like to spend much time out lounging in the sun anyway. I suppose if he was in the sun a lot, we'd get them. Guest whatahound
Ace has had pannus for about a year, he gets prednizone drops everyday. It was caught early and it has not gotten any worse. Here he is stylin in his doggles.
Guest Snowy8
Yes, with Gabby, she was only on drops for about 6 months.
Guest carolyn
Does anyone know anything about thyroid levels & pannus? In searching this forum, I read a thread about someone who's specialist said this can be related to low thyroid levels, and in her case it was true. Maybe I should ask the opthamologist about this when we go back... ETA, those doggles are pretty darn cute. Greytlady94
My hearthound Molly had pannus in both eyes for most of her life and it was well controlled with prednisolone drops daily. Molly lived to almost 13 and had no thyroid problems. I would ask the opthamologist. Quote Greyhound angels at the bridge- Casey, Charlie, Maggie, Molly, Renie, Lucy & Teddy. Guest JudiK
Pere has two pair of Doggles (because of his Pannus). The large is too large and doesn't fit around his head very well (to keep the UV rays out). The mediums are too small and don't fit around his head very well to keep the sun out. It's not just the size, but the shape of your hound's head. Pere has a very fine muzzle and head for a boy hound. I assume they are supposed to fit like high-end sunglasses for people, no light in around the edges (oh, I have a couple of those things but I can't think of the name right now and they are hanging over the rear-view mirrors in our cars... silly people actually have this name brand plastered all over their car windows and such... darn it I hate getting old!) Anyway - don't buy Doggles over the web - go someplace where you can try them on.
Guest greyhound_bug
Joe and Simon both are Pannus kids, as was Sullivan. They get prednisilone drops once a day. We asked their eye dr. about wearing Doggles and he said unless they spend a lot of time outside every day, they are usually more of a headache than what its worth BUT of course, our guys have Doggles, they just don't wear them very often. Guest MySkye
Breathe a sigh of relief as Pannus is easily managed without much interupption to their or your lifestyle! My Onnie's was diagnosed during greyhound puppy school and it is stablized through medication. She is styling for sure in her pink doggles! Good luck!
