OMG! My heart sank when I saw this. Thank you for caring so much and helping her out. Run free sweet girl....

Can't help but you are in my thoughts and prayers. I lost my first grey to IMHA, but she crashed so bad and so fast there was really nothing we could do other than doxy, vitamin K and one transfusion. Her Coobs was postitive --it came back shortly after she died. The vet was just trying everything he could until it came back.
to you and your girlie. It sounds like she is holding her own and that you have an excellent vet.

I'd say it is serious. If a dog is off its feed that will wait until tomorrow. If a dog has a history of colitis and has a bit of bloody poop but tis drinking and not in distress, that could probably wait a few hours. If a dog won't drink and is vomiting and pooping blood that would certainly merit a trip to the E-vet. I know I am paranoid, but that is what happened to my first grey and despite going to the e-vet we lost her to Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia within 48 hours. A Coombs test might be in order.

Fleas seem to gravitate more to crotch and rear end in my experience....

There was a big flap a few years ago about the Heartgard Plus chewables, but it looks like they are shipping it again. I don't buy Heartgard Plus, or even the AU version, just straight Ivermectin pills and then worm occasionally with a broad spectrum wormer as was suggested to me by a very grey savvy vet.

Advocate sounds similar to Revolution. Last I heard Bayer would not let any products be imported from AU to the US.

We had two cages of finches in our sunroom when I was growing up. They were so sweet. Fly free Credit.

Ameican slices work the best here, but I don't use the whole slice. Depending on the size of the pill I tear off 1/3 - 1/2 a slice, warm it in my hand, mold it around the pill and sort of rewrap the remaining part of the slice and stick it back in the fridge for the next dosing.

Cara Brockhoff has this on her website and it is my all time favorite. I have it printed and framed next to Harley and Rex's ashes. Swear I get choked up every time I read it.
In Tribute
With dignity and gentleness of heart,
my uncommon friend
completed his mission as he saw it.
He came in love, he left in love,
slipping out so softly one could but imagine
a gentle breeze, nothing more.
Behind he leaves a mighty wind,
an expression of unconditional love,
a power to heal the planet earth.
For this beloved friend WAS love.
Total,
joyous,
unconditional love.
Through his eyes one sensed
Truth,
wisdom,
compassion.
Only a dog?
The most treasured of values,
the most tender of passions, my Perro.
May he run forever
on the beaches and trails
of the kingdom beyond.
Woo-ah woo-ooo-ooo!
He greets the morning,
head held high, eyes sparkling,
calling the troops to a day of adventure.
Fleet beauty,
a dance of joy,
sharing time with so many stories to tell.
And then to close the day,
a quiet lift of his head,
from his favorite resting spot at bedside.
With dignity and gentleness of heart,
my uncommon friend said good night.
Good night, my Perro, God bless you.

Interesting about Bordatella. My vet is not a big believer in the Bordatella vaccine as he the number of resistant strains just keeps increasing so it works on half of them or less, but he'll gladly give it upon request. When Poodle's groomer moved to a vet practice in another city they required it for grooming so he got it. That vet only did the injections on adult dogs once a year. He said they lasted longer and were more effective than the nasal.

My vet charged $25 plus the office call if we weren't already there. I don't think they ever hurt Rex at all. They go on either side of the spine

Burpdog, I have asked before but don't remember exactly why your vets refuse to do the shot. What are their reasons? There were way fewer side effects for us with the shot that oral steroids. I keep wondering why your vets are so opposed to it. Thanks in advance for jogging my fuzzy memory.

I have a degree in zoology and went to college with all the pre-vet students. I wanted to do this, but I didn't have the grades. They pretty much needed straight A's through their undergrad classes. It is so competitive and so many never get in. The requirements are very stringent, and I think the ones that finish earned that degree and earned the right to make a good living.
When I was at A&M everyone said it was easier to get into medical school than vet school...Texas has eight medical schools and one vet school. Do the math.

Rex was very young (4.5) when diagnosed with LS by Dr. Herron. The shots really helped him. He went from unable to get off the couch to bounding up the steps and you could see when they were wearing off. He went to the bridge at almost 7 after a disc between his shoulders ruptured into his spine and was inoperable.

I am so sorry Diane.

Don't give up. Ask the group that turned you down exactly why they refused you. Perhaps there is another group that has different adoption rules and/or the reason you were denied is fixable. I have no knowledge of you or the group that refused you, but different groups have different rules.
One group that I highly respect has a rule that you MUST have a fenced yard. In my personal opinion there are lots of greys that can/do live happily ever after in a apartment, but that is their rule and I respect that. Other groups refuse to adopt to people with preschool kids. There are dogs out there that love kiddos, but those groups have had bad experiences and they can make their rules.

We bought the typical airline crate that they sell at Petsmart. This was totally the wrong crate for my dogs. Talk to your adoption rep before you waste your money on the wrong crate.
My crate was used one week (under protest) by my female and my male has never been crated. So with one dog you may not need a crate. Perhaps you can borrow one for a while.
I cannot second that enough. If you must crate a wire crate is usually better than a varikennel. You can always "close in" a wire crate with blankets, etc. but you can't "open up" a plastic crate. If you want to crate see if your group can loan you one.
Panacur For Tape Worms?
in Health and Medical discussion

I always thought that was the first treatment option for tapes in larger dogs...at least in semi rural areas. Believe the sticky wicket is that there are (at least) two kinds of tapes but Panacur only cures one.
