  1. What is she taking? (Azithromycin comes to mind , just wondering.) And! I hope it IS working for her
  2. I learned this year that I don't have a limit. In my head, I think I had a fuzzy notion that I'd go to 5K per dog. That sounds horrible to me now, as if I were putting a price on their health. It isn't about the money, it's about the particular medical situation. Determine the medical options, make the decision that's best for the dog. I easily spent 3 times my preconceived limit on two dogs this year. If they had not survived, I would have been ok with that and would not have second guessed myself. We all spend our money on something, right?
  3. Only dangerous if they were manufactured by Menu foods.
  4. Dannie ate several a year or so ago. I thought I was being clever by putting toys found under the couch in a basket on a bookshelf behind a table. The crunching caught my attention and as quickly as I could get them away from her she would grab another. Duh. She survived. The basket was moved, and the cats have stored all 30+ of the remaining mice safely under the couch again. Dannie is raw fed and can digest anything, but those mice aren't sharp or hard and your pup should be fine.
  5. Monty's 12 1/2 and having a dental next week. He has medical issues so there are a lot of precautions being taken, but he needs a dental. Quality of life and freedom from pain are too important, and not having the dental could create even more issues for an elderly dog.
  6. Alan, you sure do keep your mama busy! Tell the vet everything so he can fix you right up. Green and red and blue and white light for you young man
  7. Except for the laying down in the yard, it sounds like the anxiety response many dogs have when there's a thunder storm or rain brewing. Especially the laying in the bathroom. Bathrooms are grounded and more comfortable during storms. Just something to consider, maybe a clue that it's weather related since T-Storm anxiety isn't really about thunder and I have no idea what Kansas weather is like in terms of barometric pressure and electrical charges.
  8. Must be frustrating not to know what it is. Has she been tested for TBDs? Foot inspected for corns? But the girl is eating, right!?!
  9. We spend so much time indoors in winter - I'm positive that if my dogs didn't all wear PJs for warmth, we'd have had a few of these little 'rips' by now. The PJs offer that little layer of protection when they're racing around in the living room with mouthy Monty. Emma looks so sweet with HER monkey Hope Molly is feeling better soon!
  10. I give all meds with meals! Wrap in raw hamburger or cream cheese and serve them as appetizers. Pups must sit, shake, lay down or say 'please.' They love their treats
  11. 1500mg glucosamine, 1000mg chondroitin. You can also buy it with MSM. If you buy a generic, look all over the bottle for some proof that it's been lab tested and actually has the amount of g/c as labeled. It will take maybe 30 days for any effect to be noticable, and you'll want to keep him on it year round.
  12. I know some Registered Dietians who might debate that statement. And I'm sure I would agree with them if we were discussing human nutrition. Human and canine dietary needs are very different.
  13. Katie gets 300mg twice a day. That's what the vet neuro recommended to avoid UTIs. She weights 58 to 60 pounds.
  14. High protein diets don't cause kidney failure. Low protein diets don't protect against kidney failure. For lots of aritcles on this subject go to Dogaware.Com.
  15. Do you have a Christmas tree ? I can't imagine how a dog could scratch both eyes either. I hope the DX is correct and that things clear (?!) up soon.
  16. Tammy, sounds like your vet is not familiar, so print out the Dr. Stack article (linked by Peanut) and off to the vet you go! Hope Hannah gets treatment and relief quickly.
  17. I don't have 'the' answer, but Monty is missing a toe and the toe next to it dislocated only occasionally, and then more frequently as he aged. It got to the point where the toe would simply not stay in place and he couldn't run anymore. Walks are not enough for him, he is just a wildman when he runs. But the toe popped out so often, he couldn't even enjoy his walks. My vet is grey savvy and he sutured the joint in place so that it could no longer pop out. That isn't a very clear explanation and I can't give you details as it was more than a year ago and I've had other medical marvels to comprehend since then But it worked! And after a few months of rest he was flying around again. With your girl this is likely not an option since she has multiple toe problems, but certainly better than having another toe removed.
  18. If she's limpy or stiff it's most likely arthritis. If she has trouble lifting her butt from a prostrate position, feet knuckle under or legs cross when walking, that's what I think of as 'hind end weakness' and then you're looking towards LS. G/C worked wonders for arthritis in my 12 and a half year old male. He had arthritis when I adopted him at 10. After a few months on G/C (1500/1000 per day), the stiffness went away and he's been on it for almost 3 years now. My younger dogs get it too. If it turns out that Miss Gee has LS, there is surgery available (my 6 yo had it) and your girl is young enough to consider that approach. Majority of LS dogs are very senior and are simply managed with depo medrol.
  19. Hurry up and feel better Ronan, the holidays are coming! Wishing Ronan the gift of health
  20. Does it hurt Roo if you touch her on that side? Is her side swollen at all? If it gets noticeably larger might want to hightail it to the vet. Hope you and your pups are in better shape soon.
  21. Zachary, the humans here are at fault. Not the dog. That's the point that needs to be made. The sweetest greyhounds in the world can bite or nip another dog when racing about in play. Muzzles or separate turnouts prevent this sort of injury. So how are Gracie and her mom doing this afternoon? Hope you both managed a nap today and get special treats
  22. She's feeling vulnerable right now. You'll want to keep the other dogs away from her while she's healing. Maybe run an x-pen across the area she's sleeping in so that she can relax and feel safe, and walk her separately from the other dogs for at least a week. When she feels stronger and is more comfortable she'll be fine with them. You don't want another dog bumping into her by mistake while she's healing. More hugs to both of you!
  23. Gracie, feel better real soon honey. Your mom is glad your home and she's probably hurting as much as you are I have spare muzzles around for exactly that sort of situation, I'm amazed how folks 'forget' them even when I tell them the dog must enter the house wearing a muzzle. (I have kitties.) So I keep a spare hung on the front door knob and more often than not walk out to the car with it and put it on the 'guest' doggie. Hope you both feel better in the morning!
  24. So! Are you sure it's Henry's RX?! Glad that my dogs aren't any liquid meds. When we get new meds, I always look up the pills by shape, color and mark to make sure they are what they're supposed to be. Mistakes do happen. When I had a foster on KBR, the bottle was about 6" high, it was around $40.
  25. 60ml would be roughly 2 fluid ounces. Perhaps you actually have 600ml?
